This has been discussed before but don't remember any resolution...

I am trying to solve the problem of an extra drum 'stick on stick' click at the end of 2 bar endings. It sounds like the count-in is starting over but only gives one click. Loop is turned off and it occurs on every song that has a 2 bar ending.

Now the curious thing is it does not occur when using a soft synth - only when using my external synth. I've tried two different midi interfaces with the same results. Also it only occurs when using MME for audio. If I switch to ASIO, it goes away.

For the RDs, I tried both the built-in headphone jack and a USB d/a converter. Same result. It certainly seems like it is MME related.

I've never used ASIO at a gig and am a little nervous about using it now. Has anyone had the problem with MME and have a solution.

Latest BIAB build, Vista XP Home, and current drivers.

Thanks,
R

**What is the MIDI Latency window showing in MME?** -- With a hardware synth, it should be darn close to zero. Large settings here may have impact.

For the record, I have used ASIO sound drivers in live performance for several years now without problem.

You should set to ASIO at home and do some shakedown runs, practice with it like that, etc. to make sure that your setup offers no snags before taking it out, of course.

That pesky sticktap at the end seems to only happen on certain setups and that makes it difficult for deelopment to get rid of it, I think. You may have supplied yet another good clue, as the last time during beta, I was harping at development about the situation happenng with the hardware synths, but did not switch to MME drivers to see how it performed that way. Hmm.

FWIW, I think it is a timing thing as to when the audio files are stopped from playing back, but that's just a WASG on my part.

Try the ASIO.

You know all there is to know about it, Rachael. I was one of the participants in the other thread earlier this year and tested it out extensively using my Sonic Cell hardware module as both the interface and sound, then tested it using my EMU 1820M as the interface with both the SC and Hypercanvas softsynth and the only thing you can do is use ASIO with a hardware synth. If there's anything new about that I haven't seen it.

Of course being the big star we all know you are, the yelling and cheering to your performances by your devoted fans should drown out that stupid click anyway, right?

Bob may be jesting, but there is indeed some modicum of merit to the suggestion.

Before I found out that use of ASIO drivers seems to eliminate the problem, I noticed that the majority of my audience did not notice the extra stick taps at the end nearly as much as I did. Matter of fact, if I showed no reaction to them, then neither did my audiences.

I solved the problem on my old laptop by downloading and installing ASIO4ALL and using the internal soundcard for playback via the earphone jack to line input. Works a treat here.

It's more like the sound of drink blenders and dishes dropping!

Thanks for the encouragement for using ASIO. I'll play with it at home. I ran into an interesting problem in that the first count-in stick (beat 1 of two bar count-in) was not heard. I found an option to Correct RD Sync for ASIO on the audio setup page. After unchecking it, everything seems to be working. If I discover anything else, I'll post.

R

p.s. Mac, the Driver latency is at 0 when using external synth.

A possible work-around if (and only if) the extra note is coming from the count in.

Put an extra bar at the start and set it's volume to zero, set the volume back before the start of the second bar.

Just a thought. I don't have an external synth hooked up to test.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
