Hi, Charlie -

You haven't told us what the actual problem is, as well as what kind of computer you have (memory, CPU, etc), what kind of sound card you have, and what your operating system is.

We'll need more information if we are to help you.

Sounds to me like he is -
"working on a Findlay sprinkler head with a Langstrom 7″ gangly wrench"

(ok if somebody else gets that I'll be tickled)

Like jford said, give us a clue if you want help.

Hi John. This is the problem with PT 2010:

1. I have made a midifile in PT 8> all controlers in each channel at first >
the 1. ctrl is "121" on time 1:01:028 >
the 2. ctrl is volume "7" on 1:02:22 >
the 3. ctrl is "Prg Change" on 1:03:42
then i saved this file in PT 8 and load again in PT 8 : All correct !

2. I load this file in PT 2010 (4b!!) > play it > 1. Fail: example on ch 2
as Prg is "34" (AcusticBass) and PT is playin a pianosound.
2.fail: the 1. ctrl. "121" is no more the 1. ctrl on 1:01:028 what i have set,
it is the 5. or 6. ctrl, at first come "ctrl 0" what i never set,
at second come "ctrl 91" at third come "PrgChange" etc and all this
events come for the ctrl "121".

For this failes the soundmodul not plays the correct instruments. When i set a panflute on ch 1 i will not hear a guitar on ch 1.

Are you saving your files as MIDI files or as PowerTracks Sequence (.SEQ) files?

It makes me wonder if something changed, since there is quite a gap between version 8 and version 2010 (8, 9, 10, 11, 12, then 2010).

If you save as .SEQ files in PTPA v8, why not try saving as .MID files and then bring that into PTPA v2010.

If you are saving as .MID files in PTPA v8, try saving as .SEQ files and then bring that into PTPA v2010.

By the way, you can install both on your computer, just put them in separate folders and create different shortcuts to each program. That makes it easier to test between the two programs. Don't run both at the same time, though.

Let use know how it goes.

Are your default midi ports and or MIDI devices set exactly the same in both versions? You have probably set PT 8 options and defaults over time but may not have PT2010 set the same way?

In PTPA 2010 is the option to have MIDI re-routed to a VSTi/DXi synth but maybe not in PT 8 (I'd reinstall PTPA 8 just to check to see if that was even an option back then if I still had PTPA 8 install saved somewhere - but I don't)

And what exactly is your synth "module" a GM synth or a non-GM synth that gives different sounds (piano instead of guitar)

I get a sense from the bad hit and miss description of the problem (not sure it it's translation software or what) that:

1) what has the correct patch in PT 8 is a completely different patch in 2010 and,

2) controllers are either having different affect or more likely NO affect in PT2010 which leads me to the the devices questions.

Hi John, sorry that i`m so lately, but i have worked all the days.
At first "A happy new year" to all.

To the problem: I save the midifile as "Midi, format 0".
I have tested all what is possible, but it not works corectly.
For the soundmodul (Roland SC 880) and also for the Vocalist (TC Helicon) it is important, that all controllers are at first in the tracks. The same with the Sysex datas.

In PT 8 it works corect, but not in PT2010.

In PT8 save the song as a .seq file. Open the seq file in 2010, and see if it works OK. If so then try saving as MIDI type 0 from PT2010
This will compare the seq file to the MIDI file you are using. Maybe the format will make a difference.

@rhav: Hi, this also not works.
And - i will work in one program and not "save" in 1 prog and then "open" in 2 Prog and.....
It is that PT2010 not works correctly and the technic-crew from PG-Music can (o will)
not understand what is my problem.

In march i will go to Germany´s "Musikmesse Frankfurt" and i hope, that i find someone of PG-Music-Corp
who can help me.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
