Just bought the XW-P1. So far I'm liking it. Waiting on a case now so I can use it on the gig. A learning curve for me. Have to go back to synth basics. Piano sounds are pretty good, even though some of them sound the same. B-3 is pretty cool. Big factor for me is the weight, 11 lbs. Will report any snags or if I have to return it for any reason. Lots of features for $500.00. I was able to use Guitar Center's 13% discount also. Lter, Ray

Too bad I couldn't get a commission for that sale, Ray! I need ONE acoustic piano sound, but like many choices of electric piano sounds. How are the EP sounds?

EP sounds are as good as any other kybd. There are quite a few of them. Also 400 editable preset sounds plus fully editable synth and 9 drawbar organ. Later, Ray

Used the new kybd on the gig last night. Used pre-sets only, (there are 400 of them). It added a new dimension to the band. Sounds are very nice, B3 in particular. Haven't gotten into the do-it-youself synth or the 9 drawbar B3 yet. Still haven't audtioned all the pre-sets yet. So far, so good with kybd. Don't know about durability, strength of knobs and sliders. I've had more expensive kybds where knobs and sliders were cheap and breakable. Later, Ray

Ray, in your comments about knobs and sliders - are you implying that these feel cheap and non-robust on the XW-P1? Unfortunately, there's only one of these in the state and it's 1.5 hour drive away. Any kind of recording that you can do would be most appreciated. The demos done by Sweetwater are uninspiring - same thing played by the same guy from Casio. They posted a new video today of a Pink Floyd solo, but I've heard better through my freebie softsynths.
I'm very curious about the B3 sounds. I don't need so much on-the-fly drawbar action, as a bank of 10 or so good B3 sounds with distortion, key click, and leslie that is workable.

The knobs and sliders feel as good as any other kybd. I've had knobs broken off of more costly kybds. The B-3 sounds are pretty good, not quite as good as my CX-3 though. I don't use any my heavy kybds on gigs anymore, getting old! The XW-P1 is only 11 lbs, no hassle to carry around and it fits in the light-weight hard case I have for my CX-3. Later, Ray

Yeah, I want a new keyboard, too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfI-kw1SGlk&feature=player_embeddedYou'll see, and hear, why. Just don't look at the price. Gary

Yeah, that wouldn't be $500...

Not hardly, John. I think the price on it, with the sound bar, is north of the $4K mark.

Let's not derail this thread with talk of axes costing 10x more. If I had that money, I would be buying a Nord Stage.

Yep, I looked it up, and hence my comment. Very nice keyboard, though, and it looks like a lot of fun. My plans for a new keyboard fell through earlier, but I'm saving up for a new one. One day...

I'm still wishing that Kurzweil hadn't put those darn organ keys on the PA-3X. They had wonderful waterfall piano keyboard on the old SP series...

Mac - you must have Ray Kurzweil on the mind. The PA-3X is from Korg.
Anyhoo - the PA-3X is 10x what the XW-P1 from Casio is going for street price. Unfortunately it also has non-waterfall keys on it. I wonder if we could lobby Casio to consider waterfall keys in a next generation product?
I have to travel 1.5 hours to audition one of the XW-P1, up in Denver.

Scott, From the videos you've posted, that XW-P1 is a great keyboard. Most people really poo poo Casio, but they have made some pretty awesome stuff in their time. As for the price point, at $500 or so for the XW-P1, you can't really go wrong.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
