I want to continue using Powertracks as I have been using it for 12 years and am very comfortable with it. I am, however, very frustrated with not being able to play my midi Yourock guitar with Vsti:s. If I buy a M-Audio fast track pro will I be able to that with M-audios asio-drivers?

I never had any luck with Creative's asio drivers, neither with asio4all.

Doubtful. ASIO has been very iffy with PG products.

That's a pity. I guess I have to buy another non expensive sequencer then. I tried the demo of one competitor's program and it worked fine with my yourockguitar and VSTi without any fiddlingh with drivers and settings. I'm very reluctant to abandon PT though as I prefer notation to piano rolls and just plain like the way the program works. (Also, I hate learning new software!)

Thanks anyway/Ola

Why not use PTs with WDM to play back your tracks and then use a VSTi host, I use Cantabile, to play your YouRock Guitar through. ASIO works well with it.

Thanks for the tip. I have to look into Cantabile, but is it possible to use it with PT? Ideally I would like to write my backing tracks in PT and then play and record the melody with the You RockGuitar as a separate track in PT. I am not sure I understand how that can be done with Cantabile in conjunction with PT.

Hi Ola,

As long as your computer is powerful enough, I can't think of any reason you wouldn't be able to do this. Though some folks have run into problems, people do record MIDI with ASIO drivers in PowerTracks all the time, using VSTs.

I'd definitely give this a shot. It'll probably just work, and we'll be happy to help you if it doesn't.

Thanks
Kent

Thanks Kent, that's reassuring. Any suggestions on what sound interface/sound card would be my best bet? (my PC: win7 32 bit

Hi Ola,

I'm afraid I try to avoid recommend third-party products, but there have been lots of threads about this in our forums, so a quick search should turn up lots of info.

I can tell you that I'm personally using an older Tascam US-122, and though it's not great for audio recording, I've found the drivers to be very solid (fine with me, I work mostly with MIDI).

Whatever you choose, I'd get it from a local shop that has a good return policy (if possible), so that if your first choice gives you problems, you can try something else.

PowerTracks doesn't have any special requirements, so any information you get from the staff at your local shop (or find online) will be valid.

Thanks
Kent

Thanks again Kent, I also work mainly with midi, so I'll consider the Tascam interface and start from there, I guess.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
