Creating a new song in BIAB 2012 (latest version and fully updated), I find a problem with sound. BIAB will play a song with full sound and no problem when it has been opened and generated for the first time. However, even to hit 'replay' there is no sound after the original playback has finished. It is possible to jump about in the song after the first generation and before it has finished BUT once it has finished the first playback there is no more sound.
What's up?

Sam, did your song start with a downloaded MIDI file? That file might have some command at the end of it. Otherwise, if you created the song fresh, I don't know what could be doing that. Even if you had a fade to zero in your song, pressing Replay should start with the regular volume.
We need to know, is this song all MIDI, all RealTracks, or a combination?
And just in case, what sound card do you use? Soft synth? DXi checkbox on?

This has happened with 2 songs consecutively - one was started with an mp3, the other was started from scratch in BIAB. All RTs. No fades. BIAB is also very slow to start up. Allow about 2-3 minutes before fully loaded. Running through <ASIO MultiClientWrapper><SoundMAX HD Audio> Windows XP Pro Version 2002 vers 3 HP Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9600@2.80ghz2.77ghz, 2.96GB RAM SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio Hope that helps It is damned time wasting to start up BIAB, generate and play, edit, save, shut dwon and restart, then play every time I make a change to something

Sam,
I suspect it's the ASIO multiclient wrapper. Have you tried setting BIAB to the MME driver rather than ASIO and seeing if that makes a difference? (You'll need to exit BIAB and restart the program for the change to take effect.)
Just a thought, Noel

That seemed to do the trick. But why?
Can I not use ASIO now?

Silvertones may have a better ASIO driver option for you. You were using a wrapper anyway. ASIO can be finicky. What works for one may not for another. SoundMax normally uses generic drivers.
Try ASIO4All if you feel you need ASIO. It's another wrapper available free.
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I have noth the ASIO MultiClient and the ASIO4ALL. I also have the generic drivers for the SoundMAX card and drivers for the US-122 Audio/MIDI interface. I work mainly with RTs (which is why I thought I needed ASIO). Maybe I don't actually need ASIO at all?

The only reasons anyone would need ASIO are:
1. you are recording, and you must reduce latency 2. you have experimented with WDM and ASIO, and for your soundcard, ASIO works better
As implied above, ASIO4ALL is not even ASIO. It is WDM with a wrapper to make it act like an ASIO driver. And if that isn't confusing enough, MME as implemented in BIAB is not MME, it is WDM.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
