Hi All,
I may be missing this completely but I would like to be able to transpose single instruments. The need is there for me when using some Kontakt instruments. Sometimes a Bass might require transposing up a whole octave or a String ensemble benefits by being an octave lower, etc, etc. I'd like to do this in BB rather than go to my DAW's and back into BB.
Is there a way to do this? Not the entire song .... just single tracks/instruments.
Muchly appreciated .... Mal.

Under the Opt, Preferences menu, there is a button called Channels. One of the parameters is Octave. Don't think this affects RealTracks, but you mentioned Kontakt, which implies MIDI.

Thank you jford ...... I guessed there would be an option somewhere. That did the trick.
Searching the 'help' didn't provide any answers.
Guess I need to do more than I am in BB from now on.

Oooops .... Spoke too soon, tried it and nothing happens. Just stays the same.
Surely, there must be an option to transpose a single track/instrument up or down an octave.

You could do it by copying the track to the melody or soloist track, and then transposing it. (Edit- Copy Track)
Then mute or disable the original track. (right click on the track name at the top to see a menu for that)

Not sure why it isn't working. It's supposed to. Make sure you have the latest patch version of BIAB.
A couple of things to keep in mind; many Kontakt instruments limit the range they play in. So for example, if you lower the bass an octave, you may find yourself below the acceptable note range for that particular bass.
Also, remember, this is an octave setting, not a semi-tone setting. So a -1 means drop the octave by one. Don't use -12 or +12 to change the octave.
I tried it with my BIAB and it worked correctly. I selected Kontakt as the VSTi and then selected a bass instrument, assigned it to channel 2 (since BIAB bass is on channel 2). I dropped the octave by one and it missed a lot of notes, because it was below the acceptable range. I set it to zero, and it played properly, but close to the bottom of the range. I set it to +1 and it played an octave up. I watched on the little piano on the Kontakt screen to see that this was happening, as well as listening to the results.
Don't know why it didn't work for you.
BTW, I'm using BIAB 2012.5.

I've used this trick of shifting the octave in the Channel dialog not to hear a difference, but to see a difference in the bsss part when I take it into another program.
The reverse also works. Being a treble clef-oriented horn player, sometimes I write my bass lines up an octave or even up two, then tell BIAB to play them in a different register.
It's wonderful having the flexibility to do these tricks.

I seem to recall getting stuck on this and discovering that I could only get an octave-up transposition to work if I did it in two stages, 6 semitones at a time.

Foxy, you must be in another dialog. Options, Preferences, Channels only allows increments of 1 or 2 in either direction, where the values of 1 and 2 represent octaves as explained by John.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
