Here's a song I started writing in October 2012 and I think it's about done. I'm still hoping to get a friend to do some additional vocal harmony parts and I'm still messing with the mix... but it's pretty close. I'm using 4 different drum RT's, I believe 2 are going at any given time. I also have a couple of acoustic guitar, Bass and a piano (occasionaly) RT's, as well as 4 of my own guitar tracks. The RT's are more of a bed for my guitar tracks, though I think they shine in the quieter parts. I've been getting some pretty good feedback on this song from friends, bandmates, students & family. I've been working it up with my band too... so we'll see how it plays to a crowd pretty soon. Comments are certainly welcome. Greg I can't seem to link directly to the song anymore so the link is to my music page... Then just click on "Run". http://www.mymusicstream.com/gregachord/music.htmlWell take me with you if you think you’re gonna run away Cause without you there’s just no reason for me to stay If you’re really leavin everything just to start anew Look right beside you girl all I ever wanted was you (You know I’d follow you to Timbuktu) Well it seems like you’ve been here before It’s so familiar how you run for the door There’s greener grass you’re sure it’s just up ahead Well that’s just fine if you would stop, stop and listen To what I’ve said (Chorus) (Ride) Do you think the day will come when we’ll settle down And live a life of bliss in some little town I see it scares you there’s that look in your eyes It’s all you’ve ever known but here’s your chance to change So don’t let it pass you by (Chorus) (Outro)

A good song Greg, and it really suits your excellent voice. A very enjoyable listen indeed. Were the lead solos in the middle and end yours? If so, five stars for taste and technique! I'd have liked to have heard the drums up a bit more in the mix.

Good song, good groove, great vocals. I agree about the drums being too soft in the mix. I also think although the lead guitar is really good, there is too much of it. But this may be a matter a preference to some, yet it's strong issue enough with me that I could easily lose interest in a song. I am someone who thinks 'Free Bird' is about 5:00 minutes too long, and won't listen to it for that very reason.

Greg,
your songs have a very personalized sound that comes from contributing a large part of the content. Real Tracks are excellent at laying down a rock solid backing, but the best way to get signature themes, licks etc into a song is to play them in yourself. This is the one quality that's so often missing in songs that are all Real Tracks.
Even though a person could cut and reuse the same snippet to create a recurring motif, most people don't bother to do that.
Your guitar harmonies did a very nice job of establishing the signature theme of this song. It's one of the rare submissions that shines equally as a recording and as a performance.
And as John (Skyline) said, your singing and guitar playing are very good for the genre
Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing not only the song, but also your ideas.

Us plank-spankers think 'Free Bird' is about 15 minutes too short!

Greg,
Awesome! Nice to hear someone doing some good ol' Rock 'n Roll with BIAB. Loved it. Sounds like a cross between BTO and Grand Funk Railroad done the Achordocaster way..
I agree with John - that the drums could be up just a bit...

Achordocaster
Run is a really good rock song with a hint of BTO and a Steve Miller vibe at times in the vocal. Really enjoyed listening.
You produce excellent recordings. I also listened to Becky Was An Outlaw. I very much like that Americana style tune too. I will go back and listen to your other tunes as well.

Thanks everyone for the comments so far... Interesting that more than one think the drums could come up, I usually like my drum track pretty hot (and I thought it was), but maybe not quite enough. John - Thanks man and yes all the solo's are me. RG - Thanks for your comments... I know it's a bit long, about 3 1/2 min to where the outro solo starts. Just being a little self indulgent from that point on, We'll call it the live concert version! Check out my song "Rub It" and see if you can get through the whole thing... It has even more gratuitous soloing! Pat - Thank you so much. I appreciate you noticing the signature guitar harmonies, those seem to be a theme of mine recently... I'm always looking for some kind of a "hook" lick. Guenter - Thanks man! Floyd - Thank you for the nice comments. Austin - Thanks for listening and I appreciate you checking out my other songs.

Ok I did some re-mixing of the drums last night and I think this is a better level... I had to agree that they needed to come up. Now I'm just hoping they're not tooo hot!
Feel free to let me know.

Greg - I "missed" the re-mix. Perfect! Right where they need to be. Great job.

I must have missed the first version, but I think one seems mixed pretty well. It does have that 70's rock/southern rock feel to it -- which was my musically "formative" decade (OK, the late 60's were in there, too).
Nice lead playing. I would add more vocal tracks in there in more places. Around that 3:10 mark you had it going. Even some of the verses need some vocal thickening (I think).
Fun stuff, good listen!

Kevin, Thanks for the listen & the comments. Our "formative" decade's are the same. I'm definitely planning more harmonies, either by me... or I'm hoping I can get a buddy (who can hear & sing any part) to come over and help me out. I'll re-post when it's "actually" done. Josie, Thank you so much! Greg

Hi Greg,
I congratulate you on an incredibly well assembled song: writing, arrangement, mix - everything works together perfectly. You had my foot tapping along!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
