OK,I'm getting really frustrated with Garritans JABB3. I try and try and I cannot get any wind instrument to sound like the real thing. It just scream fake the second you here a note played. If BIAB had 1 million different real instruments sounds and in all possible tempos and styles then my problem would be over. But, that ain't gonna happen so I need the best VST you can get.My question is what is the best out there? I have piano and bass player taken care of. By the way if interested here is what I use for both. http://www.pianoteq.com/home
and when I get my refund I will be getting this http://www.spectrasonics.net/products/trilian-videos.php. They both sound awesome. Now I need my wind sections taken care of I might get these and probably will http://www.samplemodeling.com/en/products_saxes.php. Any suggestions on anything better? I have looked at Chris Heins horns not sure about the price though. Thanks for any replies

This is just an internet forum so I have to make a couple of assumptions, forgive me if I'm way off base.

You're unhappy because the Biab tracks don't sound like Garritan's demo's. Biab is a GM based program. GM is very limited when it comes to midi controls. If you want your midi sax track to sound as good as the demo you need something like this:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/keyboards-midi/yamaha-wx5-midi-wind-controller?src=3WWRWXGP

This is a sax based midi controller and of course it's designed for sax players. If you're not a sax player then you would use something like this:

http://www.zzounds.com/item--NOVZEROSLMK2

Notice these things are not cheap. If you want to take advantage of expensive software then you also need a good controller and the time to learn a whole new instrument. You have to learn how to turn a knob, pull a slider or apply aftertouch or a filter to a sax sample while it's playing to give it the articulation necessary for it to sound real. The reason these sample libraries are that expensive is because they're capable of responding to controller input. But, they're not GM each one uses their own proprietary way of working with a controller and it's complex and difficult to master. Biab and GM are not capable of controlling something like Garritan or or other high end horn sample instrument sets properly. All Biab will do is sound the note at the proper velocity and apply some reverb, chorus or vibrato, that's about it so yeah, the best sample in the world will still sound fake. It takes you, a musician using a good controller to fix it.

Thanks Bob
Well funny thing you mention the controller because I did get one from ZZounds. I got the Akia EWBUSB version after seeing people playing on youtube. Not so funny thing though is you already have to know how to play a wind instrument in order to play. Being that I have Chronic Bronchitis blowing a wind instrument isn't going to happen. This thing is just as hard to blow though as the real thing.I might give the first option a go though. I have manage to import the midis BIAB creates into Finale and after doing some tweaking almost get to where I want but not quite there yet. I guess I will just wait for some more real tracks to come out to satisfy my need for Sax or trumpet. Thanks

You can also use other keyboard controllers like the $150 USD M-Audio Oxygen 49, http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Oxygen3-49. You can both play the notes and add the controls simultaneously or have BiaB generate a track then add the controls later. You can also use these methods with the sounds that came with the EWI USB. You can come up with some very close emulations, never exactly like the instrument but extremely close.

But, and this is a big but, you have to listen to the acoustic instrument you are emulating and learn all about it nuances then learn what midi controls you need to use to emulate them. Assigning different faders and/or knobs to these software instruments is easy in both the EWI USB and J&BB.

Learning and imitating acoustic instruments is the hard part for me.

I hope this helps.

PS - you do have some very good sounds in both softsynths; I have the same two. Don’t give up on them.

PPS - Also effect like reverb, chorus and flange go a long way in horn and woodwind emulations.

You may be able to handle a Yamaha BC 1, but I suppose you'd have to route it
thru certain Yamaha Keyboards first...I had one for my CS6X, DX and Motif
ES 8, as they're pretty easy controller for about $55 including shipping.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
