I'm doing some housecleaning of my SSD boot drive, and discovered there are two entries in the Windows list of programs that are installed, that look like this:
PG Music DirectX Plugins 2.0.0.0 12/1/2012 PG Music DirectX Plugins 2.0.0.0 4/17/2010
This is from the list of programs that Windows shows that can be uninstalled. As you can see, they are identical except for the date. Does anyone else have this? Of course, I'm wondering if it is safe to delete the older entry.
Thanks.

Hi Matt,
I have a single entry that reads ...
"PG Music DirectX Plugins 2.0.0.0"
... without any date following.
I imagine that it's because of the differing dates that Windows sees them as two separate installations. Could it be that maybe the Audiophile version has installed it's own entries and the other comes from beta testing?
This anomaly sounds like something that Andrew at PG Music my be interested in knowing about.
Regards, Noel

Yours has no date? Ok, thanks for checking, Noel.
Yes, I think I'll send this to Support. By the way, I've had the audiophile version since before 2010, so I don't think that could be it, but who knows?

Ditto I have just one, dated last time I installed BIAB (or was it PT 2012) (installed "12/29/2012") that's what the Control Panel Programs lists shows. In any case, you can/could just uninstall BOTH and re-install (using "pgdx_plug_2_0_0.exe" dated 1-7-2010 which is latest version I can find within any PG product (BIAB/RB 2013 or PT 2012)
Every time I install something new from PG it always re-installs these plug-ins and for a few BIAB/PT versions they wanted to install on my C drive. I nipped that in the bud, so to speak, and removed them from C and re-installed using above .exe so I could control where they ended up (which is NOT on my C drive)
I don’t even let (some insist) VST's install there, even though some do anyway! Frankly, I wish everything would install where it was told. SONAR is told to install on D:\music and still puts the bulk of files on C and, to add insult to injury, some of it is redundantly placed on multiple locations on C!
One of the many reasons I don’t have a SSD is because of this kind of behavior by SW installers.

I have seen dual installs of PGEffects, assumed it was from testing, removed both and re-installed.
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Say Larry, the reason I am looking for space is to make room for some new applications. One is Sibelius. I like how they handled it: they split the install. The program is less than 1 GB and that can go on C: but the sound library is 40 (forty!) GB so I sure don't want that on drive C: as it would be 1/3 of the whole drive! Their installer let me put the sounds on a different drive, though. It was very well handled.

Just use the Add/Remove applet to remove the older of the two, Matt.

Matt,
Last fall (2011) when I built my new PC with four- 2TB drives I really thought HARD and long about a SDD Win 7 boot drive (and only a lowly HDD boot for my dual boot Win XP drive). But the cost, then and now, for a 300GB and up was (still ~$450) prohibitive. I would have needed at least 250GB's just to MIRROR my WIN XP installs before new stuff was added (like the WIN 7 OS itself) so 300 or nothing.
I have a LOT of SW and only room for one multi-purpose PC (music, other hobbies, gaming and WORK) in my small work space at home (unless I lose all guitars, amps, keyboards, racks, and other gear) and the newer SW installs (all obviously with an eye to late Vista and now Win 7 and up) give you almost NO choice about where things will be installed other than the allowance for user generated data files (and even some of those insist they be in C:\ user\My Documents" ) - it's insidious and irritating as hell!!
Larry

Trouble is it MAY, or it may not, actually remove the ONLY copy of those PG DX plug-ins and you'd still have to reinstall so... (I guess a quick look at registry would tell ya' but why bother) Matt - let us know if it did or not - just curious (call me ANALyst; you can't spell analyst without the first four letters )

It did no harm when I removed the same thing from my setup.
Matt is a beta tester, so am I, can't prove it for certain but I think my double listing came about during a beta install.
At any rate, I would want to keep the latest install and as I said, removing the older one on my system didn't harm anything.
Besides, what's the loss? If it doesn't work, he can reinstall anyway, but if it does work, like it did on mine, he does not have to go thru that.

OK, I uninstalled the older of the two.
Only the one entry disappeared, and everything seems to work fine.
I appreciate the help, everyone.
Just think how much fun it would have been placing blame if it hadn't worked... not just rharv this time!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
