When recording to Dxi, is the sound card irrelevant or bypassed? Another way of asking my question, does the quality of the output sound when recording to Dxi depend on the sound card, or does it depend only on the Dxi?

The reason I am asking this is: I like the real tracks and midi as recorded via the Dxi, if the sound card is not relevant in the process, then I DONT have to buy an expensive sound card.

thank you for any reply.

I am going out on a limb here -- I believe the Dxi bypasses the soundcard. We have had some recent discussions on Soundfonts which can be used instead of the Dxi and many times have much better sound. If you want to go the sountfont way, be prepared for lots of searching and testing -- there seems to be thousands of free ones out there.

See this thread: http://www.pgmusic.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=220722 and here http://www.pgmusic.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=221035 for a couple of recent discussions.

Well, if your songs will always be just real tracks and MIDI.

But -- If you intend to record even one Audio track of anything to go along with those other tracks, the onboard soundcard is only "adequate".

Hi Asian Sun

The DXi bypasses the soundcard sounds and merely passes through the soundcard

However when you are buying a soundcard it is very useful to have a "What you Hear" feature which means you can record the balance of output between Midi/DXi/RealTracks/Soundfonts which rendering does not achieve easily

I have spent a great deal of money and time trying to find a suitable batch(s) of soundfonts (we all have different sound tastes) but now with the increasing number of RealTracks it now means that I only use RealTracks (more coming soon) and VSC DXi for anything else

I use the great value for money SB X-Fi Xtreme Gamer soundcard which has the "What You Hear" feature plus a direct link to a front panel connection if you have a desktop - this is recording in real time which by it's nature is longer but I found to be quicker and far more accurate in the long run

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
