The cleanup has begun today in earnest and the degree of tragedy starts to sink in. Property loss is staggering to comprehend. Loved ones being reported as missing is still growing. Livestock and food-crops have been decimated. And it may not be over yet. We are still under tornado watch (a lower level alert) until 10 pm tonight.
It's the first time I've seen the sun all week. I am going out to the gazebo to assess our damage to the facility grounds and to try to enjoy this break in the weather.
I only regret that I can't do more to help locate the missing.

Den,
I had my tongue firmly planted in cheek with that remark. I don't ever intend to offend anyone with my corny sense of humo(u)r and smileys are grossly inadequate. As a retired Electronics Technician I hasten back to the countless schematics that used the, then in vogue, British term "piles" where we Colonials would use the term "battery/ies". It was perfectly clear what was meant but we Yanks would snicker over "piles" in the medical frame of reference. Certainly you have similar funny examples of American-English murdering the King's language. It has been fair game for humor over the centuries. Realizing that, I would never be offended by polite jabs at American-English, so let me have both barrels!

I wasn't in any way offended Don. I lived in Spain for 12 years before moving to the USA and the Spanish use the term 'pilas'.....or in English of course 'piles'
I am married to a 'yank' and we have many discussions about the different words and phrases. The one that always comes up in convos with other brits is 'fanny'......
Like everyone else Don, I have been watching the devastation in your neck of the woods on the news. I can only add my thoughts to the others here and hope you and yours remain safe.

Yes, our reference to "fanny pack", the pouch worn over the hip, caused quite a stir in some social circles in Britain.

Hi Don,
I hope you and yours are OK and recovery is proceeding. Oklahoma people are used to violent weather, but we're getting tornado warnings every day now up here in Massachusetts of all places - not exactly tornado alley. We got an F3 in western Mass last year - unprecedented.
But those mile-wide wedges are horrifying even from the distance of TV screen. With things like that a potential daily reality, who needs monster movies?
Keep safe
Aleck

Thanks, Aleck.
Today it's only "Severe Thunder Storms", a very welcome relief. LOL.

Jennifer, in OKC, emailed me to say that authorities are having to turn away the throngs of volunteers. That certainly warms me wee Oyrish 'art. Thank you.

A very heartwarming update
Totally on their own and without fanfare, off duty nurses and staff drove to OKC this past weekend, not on a medical mission but with their grubbies on armed only with shovels, brooms, hatchets, and chainsaws to help their neighbors in need.
They said that license plates from every State and Canadian Province were represented. There was no shortage of food, they were interrupted every few minutes with another group distributing hot food out of their RVs and Pickups.
An OKC friend lost her entire home, horses and livestock. Food crops have been devastated and livestock destroyed. Many folks are still missing and presumed dead but authorities are turning away the throngs of volunteers who, themselves, become a logistics liability.
I want to take this opportunity to say a sincere "Thank you!" (or Canadian equivalent) to all those who came to our rescue. We are ALL neighbors in this shrunken internet world.

Don, our news is reporting that volunteers are being turned away, not because they are not wanted but because there are too many volunteers already. That is a good problem to have is it not?

That's the same news here in GA for volunteers that went to help. And I agree, too many is a good thing in situations like this. Shows that many people still DO care.

A problem comes in when surplus volunteers clog the highways and city streets hampering movement of legitimate emergency vehicles. Unfortunately, some only come to take pictures and to "rubber neck".
I may have spoken too soon. We are being alerted of severe weather warnings late tonight and throughout the rest of the week. There are countless folks living under tarps without adequate shelter and, obviously, with no heat.
73F going to 87F but high winds make it quite cool. I wouldn't want to be under a tarp in a tornado tonight.

Email this morning from our own Val:
"Hope everything is ok where you are. We too had tornado activity in our area. Several areas of damage but no reports of anyone injured yet. Several homes demolished and reports of tornado touchdown just 2 miles from us in Columbiaville."
Looks like "Tornado Alley" has become a eight lane Interstate Freeway (Autobahn). RHarv lives in Michigan too. Check in please, RHarv?
We are still under "Tornado Watch", meaning that atmospherics are right for tornadoes but none are showing on radar. Our night was uneventful and quiet.

Quite a light show and constant thunder but this building seems solid.
Applying the military formula of 1000 feet per second between flash and thunder clap, these babies are striking in my bathroom!

Applying the military formula of 1000 feet per second between flash and thunder clap, these babies are striking in my bathroom!
Years ago now, was a young research technician part time while studying the art of electronics at university, involved with onsite data collecting techniques as regards lightning strikes. Some of the very early datalogging and computer concepts based on pc's is where I came in. We found that often it truly was the case that the bathroom of a building or house was the place where one could measure intense fields from nearby or direct lightning strikes. It was theorized by those more degreed than I at the time that the maze of copper and other conductive piping, whicvh was almost always also grounded at the bottom end, could actually work like transformers when a large strike hit and its resulting magnetic field surrounded those metal pipes. Interestingly, we also found that the actual strike itself did less than the back-emf generated when the magnetic field around those conductors FELL, creating a large voltage going the opposite direction. But we did not encounter the extreme plasma effect that we call the lightning bolt, which creates the supersonic movement of air and the resulting sonic boom that we call a thunderclap inside any of the test buildings. That was coming from outside, where the actual lightning bolt struck. It is sometimes difficult to count those seconds from flash to boom when the strikes are within about the 1 mile radius or when there are multiple strikes happening, which can have us counting for one strike and being interrupted by the boom from another. I'm just glad I don't have to do those rather complex LRC equations anymore... --Mac

We didn't have anything particular in SE Michigan last night. From my Weather Underground page, at 1:20 EDT, it looks as if Tulsa is just sound of the big squeegee moving across the midwest.
Hope everybody's okay.

Tom, last night's news placed me dead center of the red zone. It was wild and noisy but didn't TD, fortunately. We are still under Tornado Watch until 10 pm tonight then bracing for another violent weekend.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
