Hello Everyone,
I'm new here. I love Band in the Box (2009.5) but frustrated with an issue right now. I have Windows 8. When I try to render a tune into wav or mpa, it renders but there's no sound. I've read that I have to have the midi set to record. But darn if I can find or know what the midi is. It looks like I have a Stereo Mix IDT High Def Audio CODEC Device (I assume that's my sound card), but there's no options for recording. I'm experiencing the same issue loading into Real Band. My goal was to render backing tracks into mp3 and then load into Itunes for use in an IPod. Alas, I've got lots of BaiB tracks but am not able to render successfully. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi still jazzing, and Welcome to the Forum!
Automatic Rendering to Audio format can only happen when a DXi MIDI synth is active in BiaB.
Under he Options menu, select MIDI/Audio and in the window that opens, lower RH side, check the "Use DXi" box. You must have a DXi MIDI synth installed, such as the Coyote or if your OS is older and can run it, the venerable old but still good VSC Sound Canvas DXi.
The automated rendering happens through use of code in the DXi synths, regardless of whether or not the songfile contains any MIDI files or is all Realtracks or a combination of the two.

Hi Mac,
Very kind of you to jump to to help. You've clarified the issue for me. It looks like I don't have the DXi midi synth installed. I selected midi/audio and checked the DXi box but it didn't pop up. So I re-installed BaiB (2009.5 version) to see if it was a available in the start up disk, and it was so I checked that box. But still no luck. I keep getting the "No DXi synthesizers are installed." Odd. So, should I look at trying to purchased something online and downloading? Is that the Coyote? (Everything used to work when I had Windows XP, argh!). Thanks for taking the time to offer a suggestion.

The DXi synths included with BiaB are not part of the main BB installer.
You can find them in separate folders on the usb drive, or if you used download, it will be labled separately as an install. If you used DVD install, look in the DVD using Explorer for them.
The main BB install mentions installation of DX effects, not DXi synths.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
