https://copy.com/AV0dsP0gTUQHI started this back in April when a homeless girl wanted her lyrics put to music. The singer is from Spain and has a thick accent so maybe hard to understand. My problem is I'm having sub woofer crossover problems, so I would like someone to listen and tell me what could be needing help. Also any tips or suggestions for a better mix, if it needs something. It sounds weird though my speakers with the sub problems. Thanks, Tommy

All I hear not right with this is the singer was either too close to the mic or he was recorded too hot(probably this). I dont think you can fix it without a new take but maybe someone else has an idea. The instruments sound ok but the vox is overwhelming everything else in this version. Good luck with it, it is a catchy tune and I would listen to a remix. Rick

Hi Tommy, Good to see you popping in To my ears, the bass and the vocals are both loud in a similar way. It's as if the vocals are being accompanied by the bass. The other instruments are further back in the mix. That being said, I like the sound and it suits the song. For what it's worth, I can't understand the words. For a comparison, I'd try dropping the vocals and bass back about 2 to 3 dB and see what happens. Regards, Noel

listening on computer speakers the bass sounds muddy. While it sounds counter intuitive, often the bass sounds better with a roll off of the freqs below 40hz. I use a fairly steep slope below 40.... there's really not much useful stuff down there except noise and mud. Experiment and move that roll off point up or down as needed. See what sounds best. You can also try using a graphic or parametric EQ on the bass to lower the low mids a bit.... it has a muddy sound to me in that range as well..... just a slight change can do wonders, you don't have to do major surgery to get the bass sounding cleaner.
The vox sounded ok....kinda warm and a few db too loud. I'd try a few things first to try to salvage the track before recording it over.
Lower the levels 6db to start.... you may need to go more or less... the vox needs to set in the mix better.
I'd also lower the mid freqs a bit and put a slight push on the highs. Also, if you have not done so, roll off everything below 100hz on the vocals. Again the exact level is a matter of personal taste.
Side note: I'd bump the guitar solo's up a few db.
The mix is fairly good and with just a few minor tweeks you can have this one nailed.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

I mix vocals up so I can't fault that. On my KRK's the bass is very hot with a lot of "boom." Like GH mentioned I often roll off below 40-50 to give a cleaner bass sound. I do this on electric and acoustic bass. Otherwise, no nits here.

Hi Tommy, I'm not an expert on mixing (other than a drink or two), but on my headphones it sounded pretty good, and the vox, being a very raspy flamenco kind of singing it can sometimes being confused with a "hot" recording. Maybe if anything a little too to the front in relation to the rest, but not too much in my opinion.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
