I run a small SSD for my C: drive so I only want system files on it. I was able to install the high-quality samples to my application folder but Sample Tank does not give me an option and insists on installing to the c: drive, which is unacceptable. But then it doesn't matter anyway, because BiaB cannot find the samples I installed.
1) Is there anyway to install Sample Tank to the correct folder? 2) Is there any way to tell BiaB where the samples are?

My Sampletank installed to C Program Files in a folder "IKMultimedia" and since it writes to Windows Registry, I don't think there is any way to run it standalone on another drive.
But it doesn't Write to disk very much, so I don't think that would be a problem for SSD users, but space may be?

The main program installs to the C: drive, but you can install the sounds/patches wherever you want to.

Duh?
I have whole program, except IK Authorization Manager (and even that you tell/select where to install!) installed on my D: drive, along with AmpliTube, SampleTron, SampleMoog, SonicSynth 2, Miroslav Philharmonik, CSR, T-Racks 3, (BIAB, Garritan, Kontakt,....) and all ST sound libs including Band in a Box HI-Q stuff.
Simply tell it to install there on the FIRST install screen.
Then run ST and point to where instruments path is (under ST "Prefs") are then hit "Relist" and ST knows where to find all libs from then on.
I even just did a "Regedit" to confirm that registry points to all the installed locations.
Larry
PS I think it does make a IK Multimedia folder under "Program Files" (for Win XP) or "Program Files (x86)" for Win 7 but is essentially empty (maybe some uninstall info??). It's been a while - when I first installed it last year - to see if I wanted to play with it I left it all go to default (C drive various locations) but then I de-installed and reinstalled on D:\ which left some remnants on C:\ that I later deleted\cleaned up

The main Sample Tank program always installs to the c:\ drive. But it is a small program so I suppose I can live with it.
The problem is that BiaB cannot find the instruments. I get an "Instrument not found" error when I select form the list. I also get a warning in that big yellow info box that it cannot find any instruments on the c: drive.
Sample Tank, on the other hand, knows where the patches are, but it gives me a completely different problem. When I play the instruments through Sample Tank they sound like crap, like there is some sort of decoding error.

Meh. I thought I saw something but it is just the text files for the HI-Q patches are installed in the BiaB folder. Still cannot figure out how to get Sample Tank to work properly.

Problem fixed. You have to run BiaB in administrator mode to be able to set ST Prefs. I do not think it says that anyplace but ST will give you weird error if you do not. Also, the ST "PREFS" button was not at all obvious.
It also sounds fine inside BiaB. If I run ST externally it sounds terrible.

1. You figured out how to get ST to find sound/library files - great! (As a completely trivial aside, you can change the ST interface color also. If you look to the extreme right hand side of the ST window you see three SMALL rotary dials in a vertical configuration labeled : "col", "lum," and "sat" tweak to your heart's content)
2. Let's forget about the "install on different drive" topic for now (trust me it's easy-peasy)lets work on your "bad ST audio" issue, maybe we can get that going better.
At top left corner of ST window under "Settings" -> "Audio MIDI setup" is it ASIO or Directx? (or something else?).
FYI an ASIO driver using the popular app ASIO4ALL is probably going to be your best bet. However, I/we don’t know your computer, OS, and audio setup so shooting in the dark as to what to tell you right now.

In Sample Tank Under "Settings> Audio Midi setup" there is a buffer size setting. You may need to increase this buffer setting if it sounds like crap. Also on this screen is driver and sample rate settings as well as some others. Make sure these are set correctly. Brian

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
