I own a 2005 Roland RD700Sx stage piano. Its a great piano but I need to add more pianos and electric piano sounds to it via a sound module. My budget it limited to $500-$600 (aust).I'm not concerned about which brand of sound module/tone generator.

I don't have the need to add a 2nd keyboard,I just want to add a module to the piano for simplicity sake.I have a home studio so I don't have a lot of space.
My equipment consists of:
Roland RD700SX stage piano.
Tascam DP03 portastudio 8 track digital recorder.
(it replaced a 4 track Tascam cassette deck about 5 months ago.)
Roland KC350 amp.

What sound modules do use that offer a variety of pianos/electric pianos, etc?

Thanks.

Hi Denv and welcome

I use Synthogy Ivory Grands which is a software module and gives fantastic reproduction of Steinway D, Bosendorfer and Yamaha Studio 7' (over 70Gb of sampled sound information). I did a lot of research before I selected this as my choice. Other sounds are available.

However, I also did carefully investigate Sampletekk esp. the 7CG - Seven Seas Grand Yamaha C7, and also TruePianos. In my view the Ivory was the better selection, but I don't currently have any electric piano sounds for it. Some others included these in their packages. There are also hardware solutions such as the Kedtron SD2 and Roland Sound Canvas, but I'm not sure that the Piano Sounds are as good as the ivory.

Hope this gives you a starting point for your research.
Regards
Trevor

Have you considered using sampled piano's via soft synth as opposed to a hardware solution?

My only use for a keyboard now days is to use it to enter the midi data into my DAW. All sounds are "in the box" using samples and soft synths. The quality is superb and there are many nice and inexpensive sample libraries available for piano these days....

Hi Denv12,

I've been able to "update" the sounds of older keyboards to really great sounding pianos using the Ketron Klavi Pro.

It is very small, hardware unit that always is ready to go, no software fiddling, no need for separate computer, easy to hook up, matter of fact I keep one attached to the top of one of my older 88-key weighted action Yamaha pianos from days gone by, attached to the top of the piano with a couple of stick-on hook and loop fasteners, with MIDI cable from the piano to the Ketron Klavi Pro always attached.

If you are not interested in full GM banks of instruments other than basic pianos as used in gigs, this is one very nice sounding solution IMO.

Here's a link I binged that is an AUS dealer:

http://www.ketron.it/index.php?option=co...20&lang=eng

This link is to demo soundfiles of the three included piano types:

http://www.ketron.it/index.php?option=co...37&lang=eng

Most users wouldn't pay for "just" a few piano sounds, but sometimes having just those great sounding keyboards available like this is just what the doctor ordered for the consummate pianist. And the Rhodes is divine in live work IMO. Very responsive. The Grand Piano, when used with an appropriate weighted keyboard, is a dream on the live gigs.

Another option, for the keyboardist wanting to update ALL the internal sounds of their older keyboard would be the Ketron SD2 sound module. Great sounding instrument patches of all types to include one of the best sounding GM banks I've used, plus many Upper Bank patches that are of use to keyboardists as well. Again, small, simple, great sounding samples.

PG Music sells the Ketron SD2 on their website and so would any authorized AUS dealer.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
