And its my own fault! But what can I do about it?
The meat on the bones - I am using _JPJONSAC.STY a lovely 8ths solo piano, which is meant to run at 110bpm. BUT, I'm using it at 65bpm and,I think, because its a wma file (I have 2014 EverythingPak)it "warbles" at that low speed.
BB is very short on solo Piano RTs AFAICT. The only other one I can find, _PNCALIS.STY works at the right speed but is too "flowery".
Anything I can do to stop the warble?
Q - If I had bought the wavs )Audiophile) would I still have had the problem??
cheers
ian

Hi Ian,

Realtracks start to introduce noticeable sonic artifacts when they're stretched any more than 5 - 10 bpm lower. While wav versus wma might impact on this to some extent, the stretching that you've done is significant and would still be noticeable.

Have you tried using the track in "Double time"? This should give you a better result. "Double time" means it will take twice as long to play it (i.e. will slow it down).

The optimum tempo setting for a RT at 110 in double time would be 110/2 = 55 bpm. 65 bpm is not too far from that and it's also compressed rather than stretched to the new tempo. Compression always sounds better.

Regards,
Noel

Interesting! I never knew that was there. Why? Because at my screen res of 1024 x 768 it is off screen. Gonna have to play with the res and see what is better so that I get the whole screen.
Now - I ran it a Double Time and it works very much better but for the same reason that you would DT an instrument it now sounds quite "busy". However, it will probably work OK.
Thanks for your help, Noel. Always very much appreciated.

About the "sounds quite busy", did you try using the "Simpler" option (near the bottom of the real track picker)?

Piano is also one of the few instruments where MIDI can sound as good as the acoustically recorded realtrack, in some cases, such as we have here, maybe even better.

So don't overlook any MIDI or even SuperMIDI you might have, worth auditioning. No stretch needed, only concern is that if the Tempo gets too low, it might get a bit too busy. Use a slower MIDI track. You also get editing by the note capability with MIDI, and then Freeze.

You shouldn't have to change the resolution Ian. I run at a low resolution as well and in the realtrakcs picker or even style picker there are scroll bars at bottom so you can just scroll to right to see everything.

Hi Matt
Sadly neither of these RTs (1729 or 1006) has the "simpler" option.
Its another of those features I couldnt see because I had my screen res set up wrong and I incorrectly thought that I had the whole page on screen when I didnt! Sheesh!!

Hello Mac
What a great idea! I think we get so tracked into how good the RTs are that we (=me!) overlook the possibilities that MSTs and some of the midi Styles have to offer.
" I am reviewing the situation - -"
Thanks Mac

I almost always use midi for piano now as with a good sampler i get very smooth piano. I was working on a new file "September morn by Neil Diamond" and i auditioned a downloaded midi from the net with Rolands TTS synth, and while it sounded decent, i switched and auditioned about 4 or 5 from sampletank and wow i found a keeper for that song. I have used RTs on piano a few times but have yet to find very many that fit so far, unlike some of the other instruments.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
