In the past we've talked about a possible get together of forum members; but given the long distances between us, I don't really see that happening.

We've also talked about using software such as SKYPE to meet, and I finally figured out how to include up to 10 people at a time in a real-time video/audio meeting. The trick is that at least one of the 10 must pony up for the full license... everybody else can be using the free license. So, I paid for the full license in order to make multi user video meetings possible.

Its easy to do. Here's how:

1) download SKYPE from a reputable site like CNET and install it

2) create a login and password for yourself

3) assuming you have a WebCam, follow the instructions in the setup part of the program to configure your webcam and mic

4) if you want to participate in weekly video chats, post your login name in this thread (I'll need it to invite you to the multi-user conference)

5) then we can decide when we'll all be online at the same time. Once we decide that. we'll post the time and day in this thread. (for example Sundays at 7pm Eastern Time)

6) then, wherever you are in the world, adjust your local time to align with the agreed-upon time in the thread, and have SKYPE running at that time so I can invite you to the video conference

If you have any thoughts to add, post away. Let's see how many people can get on board by next Sunday

Pat:

I already have Skype set up on my laptop so count me in.
I'm tied up in our RV Park Jam Session on Sundays, starting at 3 PM MST (usually get back to the RV about 5 PM).

Thanks!

thanks LLoyd! 5 pm MST would be 7 pm for me... and that works unless other people have different constraints.

(Please PM me your skype user name so I can add it to my contacts list)

just a reminder...
I'm going to attempt a forum skype session today (Sunday jan 19) at:

7pm eastern time
6pm central time
5pm mountain time
4pm pacific time
2pm hawaii time

I can open video chat with up to ten people simultaneously. In order to do so, I need to:

1) add your skype nick to my friend list
2) send you a request to be added to your friend list
3) create a "group" of skype friends I want to invite to the same video session

If you want to be added, to the list, PM me your skype name and I'll contact you for permission to add you to my friend list

If it works ok and the conversation flows well, I'll try to make it a regular event

John,
I found your account and added you to my friend list... you should be able to get your login info refreshed.

Usually at the login screen there is a "forgot your password?" button... which sends a direct link for changing the password to the registered email

Anyway, if you manage to get on, I'll be watching for you

I have sent friend requests to the people who PMed me their skype name. Next time you log into skype, the request should appear in a small floating window.

Until you accept the friend request, I can't include you in the group video session

Followup:

the first forum skype session managed to unite 4 of us in one video conference: Pat Marr, JazzmanDan, LLoydS and Pghboemike!

Thanks guys for participating!

To those who didn't make it this time, it pretty much boiled down to a meet & greet session, attaching faces to familiar names. I must say that BIAB forum members are good people, whether you are communicating by text in the forum, or face to face!

This format could be used for general conversation, streaming performances, tutorials, showing others your studio etc etc.

I plan to do this again, so if you have a skype account, please send me your login so I can put it in the group invitation. Sessions will be announced here a few days in advance.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
