I'm trying to learn jazz guitar soloing by position. The BIAB scales wizard is potentially a real asset in that regard. However, I ain't got a clue if you can generate a scale limited to a certain position.
The first one I tried has the fingering hopping all over the fingerboard. (Oliver, I'm not there yet.) Is there a way to limit the guitar positions in the scale wizard printout?
As I'm not particularly adroit at navigating through this website, please respond to me in addition to here at: jdmike83atgmail.com.
Thanks, jdmike

It's not a good idea to include your email address in a forum. The spammers love it. Try the edit function and rewrite it so that a bot can't read it.

At the very lease always replace the @ with (at).

You can click on the fretboard position at the bottom the guitar window. For example, click on the 5th position, and then the guitar displays at the 5th position.

Thanks for your response Peter. I wasn't as clear as I could be in my message. What I want to do is force BIAB to restrict the tablature to a specific fretboard position when it is set up in notation for printing from soloist or melodist. Is that possible?
The way it works now is to randomly place tab fingering all over the fretboard. I'm trying to learn this stuff, including the neck, section by section.
Thanks in advance,
Mike Hancock

Thanks for pointing that out, Chris. However, it's a diversion address. I don't use it for major stuff.

Hello Mike.
I use BIAB mainly to write out lessons for teaching. as many of my students are young and/or new to music i need to keep the licks and scales in the first position.

What i do is go to the 'guitar chord solo' and create my own solo style.

for example:

- i use the melody or soloist patch (sometimes both for duets)
- the guitar patch is 'whatever you like"
- frets to move is 5 and i click 'force open position'
- all the chord %'s are set to 0, as in this instance i am writing single note exercises
- depending on the exercise i may - or may not - include open strings

Be sure to give it a name and put what is happening in the Memo.

This works pretty good for me. I have different homemade solo styles for different exercises.

I would think you could adapt this for your scale exercises at the different positions on the neck.

Hope this helps.

be well

RB

Actually RB, your post has helped me immensely even though I haven't a clue about what you mean by "writing." smile And when I zero out all the chord percentages, the soloist melodyist won't write anything. But, I did discover how to keep the tablature in close proximity to the position I want. Thanks. I continue tinkering until I figure it out completely.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
