HI All
I have changed from a PC to a Mac and i have been waiting for the 2014 BIAB version to be released.
As i still have my old PC i was wondering could someone advise me whether waiting for the Mac version was a good idea,or would getting the PC version make more sense.
I want it for making Backing Tracks,so Real Tracks are important, especially the Pedal Steel.
It has been said they the Mac version lacks some of the PC functionality?
Your suggestions appreciated.Thanks
Alan

See my answer to your question in the Windows forum.
BTW, there are 24 times as many people looking in the Windows forum now. I've seen over 50 (or infinity when there are zero people here in the Mac forum).
This gives a clue to the economics of using a Mac.
I release my styles to both at the same time, but if I had to write completely different styles for both platforms, I'd definitely release PC for the cash flow and then work on the Mac.
Thankfully I don't have to make that decision.

Thanks for that Notes.
I am leaning towards going the PC on a Mac way, although it is slightly more expensive.
I already have Win7 which i can use,so i need to buy Parallels and BIAB.
I take your point regarding the amount of traffic on both forums,it speaks for itself really.

Alan, if you decide to go with Parallels, be sure that you have plenty of space on your hard drive. If I remember correctly, it used over 10GB of space on my drive before I finally decided to uninstall it when the Mac version of BIAB finally got closer to parity with the Windows version. Have you looked into Bootcamp also? This would eliminate any additional purchase since you already have Win7.
Also, re: forum activity, there is no question whatsoever that there is MUCH more action going on in the Windows forum compared to the Mac forum. Let me just say that the core functionality of the program is essentially the same in both versions at this point (or will be with the imminent release of BIAB 2014 for Mac) so even if you were to go with the Mac version you can still learn tons from visiting the Windows forum. Much of the information you'll get is transferable to the Mac BIAB. Of course, if someone talks about RealBand you just think GarageBand instead, and discussions about soundcard upgrades won't be pertinent to you on a Mac, etc.
Personally, I got tired of using emulation software (Parallels); needed to recover the disc space; could never get my USB ports, my DIGI002 interface, or my Wacom graphics tablet to be recognized by Parallels; and my copy of Windows98 is too old to work with Bootcamp, so I just went native with the Mac version and am perfectly happy with it.

If you get the PC version you can do a crossgrade and get just the Mac app also then you can use the PC realtracks if you have wav files or convert the wma to m4a, but the MacBB2014 might be able to use the wma realtracks ? so just have to wait and see. You also have RealBand with the PC version that alows a lot more tracks.

Thanks Ron and solidrock for the informative replies.
The Mac version is the one to go for,I didn't really fancy messing around with Parallels. I use Logic Pro on my Mac Mini, and have Waves and Universal Audio plugins.
I think I am going to wait for the 2014 release.

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
