Check out the Ketron units
Some prefer Roland and many like Yamaha .. this is a personal preference type question so take all suggestions as such.
I like Roland myself but many have been very pleased with the Ketron units when used with BiaB.

Hi Jerry,

I would remove your e mail before the bots and who knows else gets it and you are spammed to death. We have a great private message system here built into the forums. Just ask people to send you a pm and then give them an e mail address.

The best thing to do imo, is to dl free trials of the software you're interested in and go listen to the keyboards at the music store. There used to be a link to the Ketron sounds which sound great to me but I've lost the url. There's great software out there these days at all price ranges too.

For what its worth, I use both a Roland Fantom and a Yamaha Motif. Both are great sounding units with lots of great sounds. Comparing the two units, I would say that the Yamaha sounds a little brighter, a little more open, a bit more transparent. The Roland, on the other hand, sounds a little warmer, with less "bite" and less high end openness. YMMV...both great units, just a little different to my ears.

Fantom and Motif are both very nice. I have access to both also, and hear the difference.
However, each of those synths costs quite a bit more than the Ketron, and the original post made me think of the suggestion I made. It has some pretty good sounds for 'universal' use (as it pertains to his requested sounds).
Sadly, I don't own a Ketron.
I should change that.

Josie,
Yeah, that's one of Mac's very few published files you can still find. Sometimes people would challenge him to post something to prove his 'stuff' .. and I often thought of this demo. He usually deferred the request/challenge.
I admired him for not responding. Not sure how much of this crap played a part in his 'disappearance' of late, but if it did I understand totally.

Hello Jerry,

You are indeed very welcome to the forum.

There are many here who will help you in your musical journey with band in a box and any other technical aspects of the recording process.

Here is a little review of the Yamaha YPG-235

http://digitalpianoreviewsite.com/yamaha-ypg-235/

As you felt the need to delete your post we don't have any details of the operating system you are using, but I'd guess its either Windows 7 or 8 64 bit.

There are a number of inexpensive soft synths such as the coyote forte for $40 I believe or the Roland VSC dxi which will work on Windows 7 32 bit only, another one is the Calkwalk TTS-1 not costly either.

All of the above software synths are perfectly usable in band in box or realband, though some folks do prefer the hardware synths such as the Ketron.

I hope that you enjoy your musical journey with band in a box and feel free any time to drop into the forum.

All the best,
Martin57

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
