I created a song in BiaB with all RealTracks and RealDrums, plays fine. When I open the file in RealBand, it shows me the RealDrums track in the Comments window, but when the file finishes importing the drums are not there. They ARE pointed to the proper directory - default bb\Drums.

Drum track is: JazzBrushesSticks#1: a: JazzBrushesSticks#1b: JazzBrushesSticks#1

Additional odd info: every time I start RealBand it tells me it crashed, and do I wish to open defaults. Plus it displays dialog links to http://www.pgmusic.com/uac.htm. - twice. I appear to have the latest version - 2014 (7).

Just to add to the issue, other tracks I have tried render the RealDrums tracks fine. And the style IS in the directory expected and plays in BiaB...

Any ideas? Have I missed a setting somewhere (AFAIK, all defaulted...)

Just click on the drum track then up on the Generate Button > Generate Track - Real Drums (second from the bottom)
It does this sometimes if you have Also Generate RealCharts checked.
User Account Control I find easy if you turn it off when using Realband as there are many other exe files it uses that set the UAC off.

"Just click on the drum track." I do not HAVE a drum track. I can click on the Song Settings->Choose RD, but even when I select a drum track, it is not created. ???

Sorry I thought it put the name but not the track, that's another bug I'm thinking of.
can you just go to the Generate Button > Select and Generate RealDrums (or Ctrl+G), if you click on the Style Name (to the left of the Song Settings Button) in will open the Style Picker and it will show you the Drum name for whatever style you were using in BB if the drums haven't generated.

David,

With an mgu/sgu file that has Realdrums, Realband will generate a separate "Realdrums" track as well as keeping an empty "Drums" track.

I've highlighted both these with yellow rectangles on the image below.

Do you get both of these tracks?

Regards,
Noel

Also ...

Piggybacking on what Solidrock has said, try this ...

1. Right-click on some track that has black writing and "Untitled" in its name - as labelled #1 on the image below. (A track with black writing is a non-BB track. I've selected track 10 as shown in the image.)

2. Use the "Scroll arrow" at the bottom of the pop-up menu (#2) to scroll through and find "Select and Generate Realdrums" (#3). If you need to scroll in the opposite direction, there's a scroll arrowhead at the top of the pop-up menu.

3. Pick the Realdrums and then "OK". Generation of the track should happen automatically.

Hope this helps,
Noel

OK, I tried Generate RealDrums (and then had to retry after selecting an empty AUDIO track...) and it worked great, I even get the count-off, which my other imports omit.

For reference, here is the list of what showed up:

Yes that's all good.
The:
RC770 Bass - Acous bass
RC771 Piano - Acou grand
RC1099 Guitar - Acou Grand Piano
RC490 Strings - Acou Guitar nylon,
are all the RealCharts they have the volume turned down by default, if you double click on them the notation window for that RealTrack will come up. You can also use them for Layering eg: if you set one to a synth or other VSTi Instrument so they play with the RealTrack, you can have a Sax play along with a Guitar or alternate.
Did you try and uncheck "Also Generate RealChart" from the Ctrl+G menu and see if the Drums Generate by themselves ?

David,

I don't know if this observation will help you or not. The style you selected is a RealStyle which means it's not going to populate the instrument tracks which are the first eight tracks. The eight instrument tracks are reserved for midi information imported from all midi, or midi/RealTracks hybrid styles. RealStyles do not have any midi patterns to generate any midi information.

Even if midi instruments are listed in the style, if the instrument has no midi patterns to work with, nothing gets generated.

Solidrock, I changed the RealChart option as you suggested, and it appears to have solved my issue. Great suggestion, thanks.

Jim, I DO have midi data in the tracks, apparently, though I have not tried to edit them. And didn't really want them, it's just a curiosity. They appear to have data and to be play-enabled, but muted (the track is not.)

I don't actually care, I don't need or want them.

Thanks to you both.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
