And quickly too I might add.... that means today..... NOW.... go do it. Don't dawdle.

I need as many of you kind folks as possible to take a few minutes out of your on-line time to go to this website:

HOME RECORDING FORUM

Take a few minutes to register... this is important.

Then, click on the REINDEER RUCKUS SONGWRITING CHALLENGE

Look down the list and find the 2 songs I entered into this contest.

The Best Christmas and Christmas Without You.

Click into those threads and look for the RATE THIS THREAD..... I need 5 STARS if you can find it in your heart. You must register to be able to rate the thread.

The cool thing is that if you are not already a member of this particular site, you will get informative emails on recording tips as well as notice of contests and mixing opportunities.

The contest is ending very soon. Dec 17th at midnight ....and judging will commence shortly so time is critical.

I went and signed up, but I can't get either song to play.
My internet is really slow today.

I can't get anything on Sound Cloud to play either.

OK, I'm signed in, I got the first song to play... but the "RATE THIS THREAD link does not appear as shown in your screen capture.

I acknowledged the email they sent for verification. It appears on OTHER Threads, but not on yours.

I still can't get the second song to play.

Pat,

Thank you for going to all that trouble.

That site is kinda weird. I could not get half of the songs to play either. Most seemed to be uploaded and my browser would not play them.

I've been in some contests there before.... mix contests, and had similar issues.

Good point in that you do have to have "full access" which I think requires 5 posts..... or something like that. That little feature is designed to make it really hard and labor intense for people to cheat by creating multiple sign-ins and rating their own threads.....

in my case "full access" required the following (in this order)

1) create the account
2) wait for the acknowledgement email
3) reply to the acknowledgement email
4) create an introductory post
5) log in

my problem was that I was prompted to create the introductory post too soon, and I did. But unless you create it AFTER acknowledging the email, you don't get full access. So I ended up creating TWO introductory posts. Good news is, I got to vote! Both of your songs are very good.. you are a talented man.

Ditto here, what a convoluted way to get access! They should never have let us create a introductory post prior to the email!

Anyway Herb both songs were outstanding!

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Thanks to both of you.... I certainly appreciate the nod of confidence.

That forum site has always been "convoluted" in how it does things. I've participated in one or two other mixing contests there in the past..... really fun to do and see all the different ways everyone approaches mixing the same tracks...... but yeah, getting set up to vote in one of those things is a pain.... thank you both for enduring it.

Two reasons have been mentioned for the "process" one must endure to vote....

1. Makes it harder to cheat by setting up bogus accounts (not impossible, just harder )

2. Helps to keep the spambots out. They had a huge issue with that, as I understand it, some time back.

if they really want to keep the voting honest, I think they should provide you with a list of who voted and what score they gave. How do you know your competitor isn't giving low scores to drives your average down? The current system doesn't appear to allow for that. You just have to suck it up and accept your score as being fair... when, in fact, it may not be. There's no way to tell.

In past contests there, this was a huge issue and I suspect it still continues as you pointed out, there is no way to prevent that.

Some of the winners in the mixing contests they've held were all the regulars. I know someone who, do to his extensive knowledge and skills at mixing, was asked to be a judge in one of those contests. He PM'd me on a different forum site to discuss some issues he ran into as a judge and informed me that the mixing contest boiled down to a popularity contest.... with very little to do with who actually had the best technically correct mix.

It's fun.... that's why I jumped in.... and with the hopes that the judges are actually setting aside friendship and judging on writing skill alone. We'll see.

I went and listened to your tunes, but I didn't go through the hassle of signing up (sorry about that). It looks like you got some decent crits on the tunes and it seems to be a good site (but I just don't need to join another site -- ha, ha).

Ha! That ain't happening, unless the "outside" song in question is leaps and bounds better than all the other ones.

Good tunes and good luck on the contest. You ought to re-post them here (I noticed that they were posted here a years or two ago, but 'tis the season!).

I listened to your song "Christmas Without You". I have to give it an A+ because your voice sounds so much like my old 'Back Trackers' partner I couldn't help myself. I sure do miss him and hope to hear from him again someday.

I went back and listened to "The Best Christmas". Another A+

Sounds like you were singing backup on this one. Nice Job, great song!

you really didn't ask for any critiques but following up on some of the comments at that recording site -- hopefully you will accept this in the spirit that it is given (and don't go looking at my songs for avoiding this issue either -- ha, ha).

I did a 30-60 second preview of your first eight or so songs at soundclick and it seemed that you were starting all of your songs with 100% of the rhythm section kicking in. When you start off that way, it is really hard to get dynamics into a tune. Just an overall thought. Watch this video and see how this band brings everything in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0plHzjs_NQ

There has to be a natural arc to songs to make them really interesting (or maybe an ebb and flow -- just like nature). I haven't got there yet, but I know it has to be done.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
