I ordered a copy of NI Kontakt 5 recently. In reading through the NI info, they say that to get the best performance out of Kontakt, the sample libraries should be loaded to a separate HD. Based on that, I went ahead an ordered a second 1TB 7200rpm Black WD drive.

My current BIAB / RB install is on my original 1TB 7200 drive. Would I see any performance improvements in BIAB / RB if I move my RT, RD and Styles to the new second drive?

Yes, a little.
I leave styles on C:\BB but the RT/RD are on E:\BB
This is an internal drive, right?

If so set your audio Temp Directory there too. I sometimes wonder if this is why my RB seems to be so much more stable than some ..

Thanks Rharv, appreciate the help. Yes both with be internal drives. Can I just copy the RT and RD folders over from the original drive and then change the paths in BIAB and RB?

Jeff

It would be best to keep those folders inside a BB folder though, or the app may complain, but it should just be a copy over.
I created a BB folder and copied to there -
E:\BB\Realdrums
E:\BB\Realtracks

The only things in the BB folder are the RealDrums and Realtracks folders.

NOTE - if you change RB Prefs to point to the new location you should also point BB at the same location or RB will notice that RB and BB point to different locations and it will keep asking you if you want to make them match .. every time you open RB.

OK, good points. So, trying to understand the 2014 to 2015 migration process, would I:
1. first copy the RD and RT folders on the existing C drive from the 2014 install to a new BB folder on the new secondary drive
2. then run the 2015 install program to allow the update of the programs on the original C drive while pointing the RD and RT installs of 2015 to the new secondary drive
3. Update the 2015 programs to point to the RD and RT folders on the new secondary drive.
4. Load the Kontakt program on the C drive but installs its libraries on the new secondary

Appreciate your expert guidance here Rharv.

I might actually run one test along the way.

After moving the RT and RD files, try pointing the existing BB program at those files before installing the update.
Then you can know if the 2015 update broke it (if it doesn't work later) and BB\RB should retain those settings for you.

Right, good point Rharv. I like your thinking, test it with a known before introducing the 2015 update variable. No sense convoluting the process.

Ahhh... we are such impatient creatures.

Something that used to take 45 seconds to load now takes 20 seconds to load and we want it done in 10 seconds.... I can't blame you.... I want it done in 3 seconds.

You would likely see the best increase in performance by bumping up the computer specs..... faster processor kind of an improvement. But looking at what you have, you're running a nice rig now....

Coming from my old core 2 laptop to my Quad i5 custom build made a huge difference in how quickly BB/RB loads it's real tracks and regenerates the songs as well as loading the big synths like Kontakt.

Yeah....I like keeping the library files on a different hard drive as well. If for no other reason than to keep the C drive from getting overly full.

Right Guitarhacker, not only for performance reasons but when you consider RT's at 66GB, RD's at 46GB and then add in Kontakt 5 samples of another 65Gb's...that a lot of GB's on my primary drive.

Guess I could've gone to a larger primary but somewhere along the way I heard that 1Tb was the largest single platter drive....anything larger was 2 or more platters. Something about single platter drives being more responsive or perhaps more stable...forgot which....maybe neither...can find almost anything on the internet these days.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
