Yep, it would interesting to have on desktop and to play with it but why do I know it will be priced in the absurd arena

A little expensive, fair enough, but a lot of investment in development to get a return on. Prices may eventually change. Very interesting though!

actually there's an app for the ipad that works almost exactly like that. It's named GEOSYNTH.

It can be used as a midi controller too. If it isn't free, it's awfully cheap because I bought it and I'm cheap.

That app is cool but it's nothing like the Linn. I was there and played it, Roger Linn was set up like 8 feet from the Hammond booth and Dr. Lonnie Smith was checking it out too. Cool to stand right next to a legend. Anyway this thing is $1,500 which is a lot for sure but the sounds were amazing. He didn't have it set up for synthy stuff he was playing pure acoustic violins, guitars, horns and pedal steel. He was getting the doits and falls for the horns and some very realistic pedal steel. I'm a keyboard player not a guitarist and this is set up like a fretboard. Still it only took me a few seconds to start to get it. It really is a very nice unit but it's expensive. Over the years he's made several very nice pieces like the Linn Drum and that wasn't cheap either.

This forum is mostly for hobbists and semi pro level performers (yes I know there are exceptions). If you're really serious about recording some realistic instruments without actually hiring good players this Linn is well worth it but certainly most of us can't justify that cost. But as soon as I heard and played it I'm thinking I want one. Then I woke up...

Its true that $1500 is pretty high for a casula purchase... but as MIDI controllers and other pro instruments go, $1500 isn't out of line. I think for what it's capable of, that's a reasonably low price.

When I said it works the same way, I didn't mean the sounds. I meant the grid is laid out the same way, and in both cases you slide across a slick surface with your fingers to generate the sounds.

Got to say I was not that impressed, the sax sounded feeble, it wasn't the modelling so much but the crispness between notes. Then what about attack? Legato? Staccato? How do you switch instantly? what about other articulations? Strings have loads.
It might be ok for some types of instruments - perhaps steel gtr

IMO

Zero, it's a controller and will work with any synth you want to use. He was using it with a basic sound package that comes with Pro Tools I think. If you have one of those expensive woodwind synth packages this will control that too. It's similar to how Biab is packaged. Linn gives you the basic sound package just to get you started but you're free to use whatever synth you want just like with Biab.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
