My friends had asked many times for me to entertain them with some background cocktail piano. One evening I eventually agreed, and started playing a couple of Jobim's standards. After a short while, a very large female security guard arrived, and while I was playing and without any notice, slammed the fall on my fingers. I guessed that meant she didn't like Antonio Carlos' music, or something similar. Frankly, the real reason she did it was 'because she could' I wished that they had that device back then. Would've saved me a lot of pain. It was to insure that I and my Sunday sub were the only ones to play it. Prior to the lock, a guest spilled a drink into the piano while banging on it. Cost a good penny to fix. You had witnesses, the hotel was liable for the behavior of its employees, she was clearly out of line to inflict physical pain on you... and the hotel most likely had deep pockets and/or insurance to cover such things. I'm not normally an advocate of taking legal action.. I'm more inclined to suck it up and move on.. but that was so utterly wrong and unnecessary and purposefully punitive... it deserved a punitive response. Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first?
