Thought that this would be easy, but its proving a real challenge. I usually use BIAB just for practice, but I decided to try recording too.

With some help from the PG team I have managed to get a VST loaded into
the thru channel. Now my keyboard plays sounds that are coming from NeoSoulKeys (great instrument IMO)

I tried hitting the record MIDI and the Record Audio but there was no recording

This process seems to involve the "thru" channel and either a melody track or a soloist track and I am really not sure why.

I watched the video and it was talking about set up in Windows. I am using Asio from my Liquid 56 - I think.

I am really perplexed and am not even sure this is possible

You must be a glutton for punishment. You do have a DAW for recording, don't you?

Your probably right Dan, but surely this is a bog standard VST function, and not that hard to implement.

I practice about 5-6 hours most days using BIAB, Real Tracks are great and BIAB has helped me improve dramatically. I would not want to say its all bad.

However, for years now I have run the Audio from my Roland 700NX and any sound I want WITH BIAB completely outside the software. I gave up on using BIAB to channel the sounds over five years ago.

Why should I have to do this? (!)

With 2015 I thought I would try again

Surely it should be simple to do this - specifically record and playback using a VST in Band in a box.

"We’ve added direct support for 64-bit VST plugins" is what is said on the website

Surely this is possible!?

I agree the NeoSoul Keys are great - I only have them installed on my Motif XS7 however, not as VSTi.

Back to recording I agree recording IN BIAB is less then straight forward, however having said that:

-Set a VSTi, may as well let it be NeoSoulKeys, on the Thru channel in VSTi pull down or via MIXER, this then allows you to HEAR the sound as you record it.

-Next , hit record and select either Melodist of Soloist track, that’s simply the track where THE MIDI data will end up as you record - it WILL NOT SOUND during recording from that track, irrespective of any VSTi that may or may not be set on that track.

-Record song

-IMPORTANT BEFORE playback - insert the another copy of NeoSoulKeys but now the Melodist or Soloist track, as case may be, (yes , could have done this at same time you set a VSTi on the Thur track)

Now all should be GOOD as long as: see pics 1 and 2 for some Thur settings.

Save the song the recorded MIDI data (on either Sol/Mel tracks), and BOTH VSTi settings on Thur and Mel/Sol track SHOULD be saved?

Just did all that as test using Fishman Triple Play guitar and XS7,

HOWEVER, please note when you re-open the song the Thru track has the right VSTi in the VSTi pull-down for Thru but WRONG name in mixer window - that appears to be a glitch

Thank you Larry I do believe this will work, though its very circuitous, will give it a try.

thanks for the time you spent on the reply

BTW the thru track is not only misnamed, but it does not reload the VST correctly on reload.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
