I´m a happy user of BiaB EverythingPAK since 2011 and followed every upgrade. Now I´m thinking about upgrading to Audiophile.
Is there any "price-wise" reasonable way?
Is this possible as a "download-version"?

Don't know what's reasonable for you.

http://www.pgmusic.com/bbwin.packages.htm says USD 499, if I correctly read and comprehend that. An email to PGMusic will give you more specific information.

Download? That's an awful load of bits. That will keep your line busy for a long time.

... I should have been more precise:
I´m already on BiaB 2015 build 415, and therefore don´t need the complete upgrade but only the uncompressed wav-files.
As I´m living in Hannover (Germany) I want to avoid the taxes for a hard drive

As the audiophile version currently requires about 1.5 TB, I think that rules out downloading under present technology. That's too bad about the expense of taxes for the hard drive, but at least you do get a very nice USB 3.0 drive.

My understanding is that the Audiophile version is only available as a hard drive distribution.

I don't know if German customs has changed policies. Usually you only have to pay import taxes for the value of the hard drive. In Germany the value of such a hard drive is somewhere about 90 to 120 Euros, VAT included. Import tax is about the same percentage as VAT (19%), so it is somewhere about 20 Euros plus the import tax for postage...after all mailing it add to the value. smile As I said before, I don't know if they have changed policies.

Thanks for all your hints.
I think I´ll order the hard drive. I´ll keep you posted about the taxes.

Finally I made I made it...
I got a fair offer from the German distributor of PGM and the hard drive arrived yesterday

As I am already on the Everything PAK I wonder whether I have to install the Audiophile or just copy the realtracks and realdrums to the location where my WMA realtracks are....

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

That should work. If BIAB finds a .WAV file, it uses it; otherwise it uses and uncompresses a .WMA file.

Double-check the .ST2 and .XT2 files in the /BB folder to make sure they are the same (not at a computer to check). If not, copy those too.

Thanks Matt!
Is there any way in BIAB to see whether a .WAV or a .WMA file is used?
I know, I should hear it ... but just in case.

Well, not exactly in BIAB. But the way BIAB works is just as I described. You don't have to 'see' it. If you really want to 'see' the difference, compare the files in a spectrum analyzer. You will definitely see a difference.

However - another thing that you can 'see' in BIAB is that you might notice a slight improvement in regeneration time, because now there is no need to uncompress the .WMA files first before loading the sound into RAM. In the early days of RealTracks, this time savings was noticeable, perhaps around 20%. Less so now. This, by the way, is why PG Music has a command to uncompress all the .WMA files. It doesn't change the sound - only the audiophile version does that - and it takes up 11 times more room, but loads like the audiophile version, which is slightly faster.

As far as hearing a difference, as I have written here innumerable times, it depends on your playback equipment, listening environment and how good your 'ears' are. Certain instruments are much easier to detect the differences, including but not limited to cymbals, acoustic guitar, and acoustic piano for starters.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
