Hello all.

My album of Dylan and Denver covers has just been released on iTunes/Spotify/Amazon etc by Unique Music (www.uniquemusic.co.za)

Herb, aka GuitarHacker provided the wonderful guitar work on "I'll be your baby tonight". Thanks Herb!

The album is completely done in BIAB (other than the guitar work provided by Herb).

The good news is that you can stream the entire album for free on Youtube.

Here is the link for those that are interested.

Joanne Cooper Uncovers Dylan and Denver on Youtube (audio only)

If you let me know, in the comments section, which track is your favourite and I will send you an Mp3.

Thank you so much Bob! Definitely two of my favourite artists as well. Different, yet similar.

*** Wow. Josie, this is worthy of a major label release. ***

_______________________________________________________

Skipped a few lines so that you can absorb that line and let it sink in. I'm sincere when I say it. Wow.

You have done a magnificent job putting your own interpretation and signature arrangement on well known songs. I knew all along I would enjoy the album but you outdid yourself.

My favorite is very close between two tunes - I had to listen more than once to decide between the two. 1. This old guitar and 2. I'll be your baby tonight

This old guitar is a sentimental favorite of mine and that is what likely tilted the scales in its favor.

The arrangement of I'll be your baby tonight is my favorite arrangement and version of that song ever. Kudo's to you and Herb. Excellent work. This should be the first single release from your album ;=)

Joanne,

Way to Go! Your presentation is super! I don't think I've seen a video before that had jump-points in the screen - that is very nice...

I think it would be interesting to everyone if you gave some background on how you got licensing for the songs - how long did that take? who and how? how much (ballpark - if you don't mind talking about it). etc.

You are doing it right! Good Luck to you!!!

Joanne,

Everything about this album is outstanding... Love the selections, vocals and arrangements. This deserves to be heard.

I love them all, but my personal favorite is "I'm Sorry". Your delivery really brings it home...

Unfortunately I can't listen to it in Germany as the GEMA (royalty collectors) can't agree with youtube on what they rake off. I wouldn't mind really if the artists got the money, but it mostly ends up in the overheads.

Hi Floyd. The video idea came from an article I downloaded from CD Baby about Youtube. The link is here . A band called Strangeletter Strangeletter had done this with one of their albums. You use something called “Annotations” in Youtube to put the place markers on the video. As I have mentioned in another post, Youtube is fast becoming a place for people to stream music, so I decided to try it with this release. I will get round to doing individual videos for each of the songs over time.

Absolutely Floyd. Great idea! I was approached by Rael Birns of www.uniquemusic.co.za at an acoustic folk club event where I performed. He said he wanted to digitally release my music. Unique Music is affiliated with another South African company Next Music who is affiliated with The Orchard.

On meeting with Rael, I discovered that it was equally easy for him to publish covers as original music. I signed a contract with his company, where I agreed that Unique could publish the specific music I delivered to Unique (for a period of three years). They publish on all the major digital platforms including iTunes, Amazon, Spotify etc. It does not cost me a cent to publish. I get 80% of the streaming and download income received by Unique. It usually takes about 15 days after delivering the music for it to be available on iTunes. All that was needed was 1. The songs 2. Album artwork 3. The song names, writer(s) and publisher. This information is easily obtainable using a simple Google search. They take care of all the licensing! What a bargain!

However, a couple of things to be aware of, you do have to agree to remove that music from wherever else it may be published on the internet. You also have to be careful of pitching any of these songs. I haven’t found out what exactly happens if any music is selected for sync opportunities but I am sure it wont be pretty. The other thing to be aware of is that you have to be completely trusting. I have not found a way to see my download or streaming stats until two months after a quarter end when you get a statement.

The Youtube thing is another story and I still do not completely understand how it all works with The Orchard. Personally, my Youtube channel is part of The Orchard Multi Channel network where they collect revenue from the Youtube streams in the same way as they collect money from Spotify. I will know more about how this all works when I get my next statement (probably at the end of May).
I hope this helps and please feel free to contact Rael directly.

Edited to add: What I have learned with the Youtube thing is that if you decide to partner your channel with The Orchard, then you can only publish videos of songs that are licensed to them. If you decide not to partner your channel with The Orchard then who knows what happens to the streaming revenue on videos of songs that are licensed to them (since you are no longer able to monetize them on your own channel). Sounds complicated? IT IS!

Bob. You really are too kind. I must say I am surprised with Im Sorry. I nearly booted it off the album. So glad you like it. You have a PM.

Hi Sinbad. Nice to hear from you again. Sorry to hear this. Oh well, I guess Youtube is not the panacea I thought it to be! Do you have Spotify? Else you’ll just have to purchase the album smirk

Congrats Joanne! It would be really hard to choose a favorite since most of these songs are among my favs and I thought you brought you own unique flavor to them all.

Wonderful job. Good luck with it.

My thoughts entirely,
I was never a John Denver fan, apart from 2, so thanks for introducing me to his songs.

Good luck with the album, your voice sounds great on this

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
