Does anyone know if it would be ok to put it some sort of padded case to protect it from possible falls? My floor in this area is flagstone.

I'm considering this because there doesn't seem to be an opening to allow heat to escape. Is it a normal but smaller hardrive or one of the SS kind? How about it's storage capacity?

I may be talking aout of turn but I'm not sure that the hard drive (assuming it's the same one I have) has any moving parts so may not have issues with over heating. But I am no expert...just a guy with an opinion... smile

The audiophile external drive is not an SSD; it uses normal hard drive technology. Hard drives are mechanical devices and thus generate some heat, but the case is sealed and I don't think covering it would hurt. Of course, what hurts a hard drive in a fall is not cracking the case - it's scoring the platters with the head.

The audiophile drive's capacity is about 1.5 TB.

This doesn't relate to your question, but it's a USB 3.0 drive (really nice touch by PG Music).

I would think that Velcro could be your friend here.

Thank you Matt. Thinking about it some more it's also possible that the case maybe acting as a heat exchanger. Sometime when you are just aching to type.... Is 3.0 an improvement over some previous version. What are it's improvements? This is not critical info for me so feel free to accept my thanks and lay into those F# etudes.

I like Velcro, too.

Yes, a USB 3.0 drive is far faster than the more common USB 2 standard that we've had for ten years or so. USB 3.0 is backwards compatible so you can still use the drive on older equipment. I bought a PCI add-on card to give me USB 3.0 on my older PC and it really helps when copying many files for backups.
