I use a WX-7 for live performance. I just got a Ketron SD100 which unlike the SD4 I have used for years has no "Patch Select" buttons on the hardware. As the only software available that had a great patch select utility is the expensive (and in many ways redundant) vArranger. I would hate to spend $400 just to change patches in the middle of a tune.

I would LOVE a less cumbersome "utility" built into BIAB that would allow me to select patches (especially the Upper banks where all the cool sounds are) than the multiple clicks I now need with BIAB. If it were Tablet-friendly, all the better. More and more users are dumping traditional laptops for tablets.

In general, making more BIAB features touch-friendly (without a stylus) would be much appreciated and certainly add to its value in Live playing situations.

Tablet Friendly is a good way of looking at things Phil. I would think that some might find viewing notation on stage this way to be great.

I have most of the Real Books on Kindle. Since I bought them legally, I have also converted them to .PDF which I find most convenient on a tablet (on my Surface Pro 3 I can have several Bb and Eb versions open and ready to go as I switch horns.) Would LOVE to have an easy way to use BIAB for this. I use it when I have obscure tunes (or have to play in odd keys to accommodate singers) but would really love to have some tablet-friendly "live playing" features (like a sticky "transpose notation" feature.

+1 for adding an utility in BIAB to change patch during a live session, including high bank patches, for instruments and drums.

I've already requested that some years ago for the thru channel. The answer was "you have to set your patches in the arrangement of the song via F5 key".
This solution works but it is not a musician answer because according your feel, you may choose a patch or another one !

In the same chapter, I still don't understand why we cannot have upper bank patches in the favorite patches...It is a very frustating situation. In VArranger, acces to all patches is instantaneous.

I was fortunate enough to buy a copy of vArranger "used" from a guy who quit using it. It is a great model for a "Tablet-Friendly-Live Playing situation" GUI. One of the REALLY cool things is that it knows what module you are using and makes the appropriate patches available (treating the upper banks as peers) automatically.

Do when I switch to my SD4 from my SD1000 for example, I get the correct list of voices from which to choose. It was kind of pricey, just as a patch change utility (but it is also a good Sound Font player.) If I want to travel VERY light-weight I can leave the modules at home, and just use my WX-7 with my tablet. Setting MIDI off in BIAB and just using Real Tracks for backing leaved the MIDI port free.

I suggested to Dan at vArranger that he might separate out just the DF player and patch manager from the rest of the code, and just sell those components at a cheaper price. There is nothing else out there like it in software.

Unfortunately, as good as Dan is, he seems more interested in protecting his IP (which I can SORT of understand as a one-person company.) On the other hand, you wither need a USB dongle or install one ONE specific Windows computer. I worry if he should ever get hit by a truck, what will happen.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
