I was clearing out some files the other day and came across this country rock version of a country song I posted ages ago. I only had a scratch vocal so I thought I would see what Realband could do with it. I cleaned the vocal up a bit and added some guitar and bass. The bass is played on guitar through amplitube with a bass preset. Drums courtesy of Jamstix.
The Realtracks are:
RT691 Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming AcRockBright Ev 120
RT2151 Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm NewOrleansBoogieKevin Ev 165
RT2152 Piano, Acoustic, Soloist NewOrleansBoogieKevin Ev 165

„Let me know“ country rock version
The original slow country version for comparison

The new one reminds me of Mickey Gilly to some extent.

80's country style.

The old one is Gene Watson style

I actually like the first version better.

You could do a remake of it in that style with new rendered tracks, envelopes and rocking drums and it would really sound good. let the solo feature the guitar with fills on steel.... that would be a cool version.

You have a cool sound, Chris. I really like your vocal - it has character!

Both versions work and are actually surprisingly different - like 2 different songs. The new one reminded me of what Ronnie Milsap did... I liked your guitar work...

Chris, two for the price of one! I really liked both versions. Your vocal sounds great in both. Very easy on the ears. Keep them coming. I look forward to what you will come up with next. Tom

I was listening to "Boys of Summer" covers this week and a few people did it as a ballad. Like yours, it made it sound like a completely different song.

I really enjoyed your Country Rock version. The music, parts and lyrics really made it shine.

Thanks for sharing it.

Day and night...amazing where you took that
song. Nice guitar and bass and vocals.

We like them both and feel it would be hard
to pick a fav since they are so radically different.

Enjoyed the listens.

Wow. Both are good versions. It was fun reading the comments and the various artist styles different forum members heard.

As noted, two radically different versions and either one stands up well on its own. I personally preferred the first version.

Add piano to the first version and I think the song would be in the style of Charlie Rich. The second version sounded to me as I picture Tom Jones trying to do country.

Your vocals worked quite well with both versions and the mix, production and performance were spot on.

Chris,

I like the original better but it's because I REALLY like that syle of music. I've got to agree with Guitarhacker, it would be nice to hear you rework the original.

On both versions I like your vocals. You have an easy voice to listen to.

LOL - Thanks Charlie. The first version is already a remake of the very first version, before I bought BIAB.

The song just came to me when I borrowed my neighbour's Telecaster. Inspired by telecaster!

@JimFogle
Thanks Jim. Maybe the first version does need some more work. I'll have to see which realtracks I cold use without swamping the whole thing.

Chris,

At the moment, I'm listening to the updated version. It's terrific!!! I agree with floyd. Your voice has a great deal of character and is a pleasure to listen to.

Now I'm listening to the original. Oooooh.... this one suits you too. To my ears, you're more involved with the lyrics in this one. It's got overtones of "He'll have to go". I really like it.

Overall... both versions are great. At the end of the day, the choice would depend on what you want to use the song for.

All the best,
Noel

Noel,
Thank you very much for your kind comments. It's nice to have some feedback as I am never sure of the mixing levels, and if there is too much, or not enough bass etc. Glad you liked them.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
