The theme of this submission is mostly rock/pop electric guitar, with tempos ranging from 65 to 120. I recorded all of these in the last couple of days since the email went out about the contest. They are all played on a Fender Strat. All also used only the 1 minute provided template so some seem to scale chords better within BB than others because the template doesn't have every true chord in it.

Here's a sample produced directly from Band in a Box of one of these guitar tracks where I just loaded one of the pre-loaded song sample files in BB rather than using the template structure, just to see how it would scale and adjust my custom usertrack based on different chords:

Other tracks in my contest entry include gritty rhythms, U2/Edge/Pink Floyd style delay rhythms, Hendrix/Stevie/Texas style busy backing rhythms, two note power chords with doubled LR guitars, volume swell notes and chords done by picking before turning up the volume knob on the guitar, and a soft slight tremolo backing track. No matter how the contest goes, I hope users enjoy and benefit from this attempt. You can download the complete package here:

P.S. If you're wondering, I've nicknamed these the 'DJL' tracks because these are the first letters from my full name.

I don't have BB2014 yet, so can't test these, but now that I have made several, I marvel at yours. Great playing. Good job. I wonder if the delay ones will work, since the delay "bleeds" into the next chord. Might need a dry version to add delay onto after the fact. I almost did an edge one myself.

Thanks Brad. Yes, I did my best to prevent that problem by setting most of the delay volume to mainly be just a single repeat on the 16th note I think (i.e. it's picked on the 8th notes of beat 4) and then it only faintly repeats. I think he sets his more to fade much more gradually away over several beats, which makes it thicker but wouldn't work as well for our purposes in BB. The past two days were my first ever attempt at making usertracks and now that I see how they translate to different chord progressions in the program and realize that we're not limited to the one minute template, there's a lot of potential to build on or tweak these to make them work even better with the program.

Wow David that's some high quality playing! Lots of useful UserTracks. I just messed around with your Rhythm Crunchy Ev 100 and put in on a Reggae style. Here it is to listen:

Thanks Charlie. That was certainly not how I would have EVER imagined that particular realtrack being used, which is what makes BB so great. I can't convey how strange it is to hear my own playing over a chord progression and song I never actually played on. Thanks for sharing!

LJDavid,

Its like "ghosts of the past". Your reply gave me a good laugh,
not funny, but good comment.

It's really fun to hear how you guys ended up using my entry in songs. It also motivates me to want to work on some more and/or refine these to use a much longer template. Thanks again!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
