Chet's work with the Gretsch was as good as it gets in anyone's book but I always thought that Chet sounded best of all with that Gibson gutstring electric.

Great song. Great musicians. The only problem I had was Don had chosen to play acoustic as well as sing. Having two acoustics did make it difficult to determine at moments who was doing what. IMHO, it would have been an outstanding performance if Don just sang while Chet just played. It's a shame we won't have that opportunity again. Thanks for the video.. P.S. for those who enjoy Chet Atkins style, check out this player. He was mentored by Atkins and has picked up a lot of his techniques. This is a a tribute to Chet named, Wabash Cannonball, Doyle really has carried the torch Chet lit long ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mwFA56dKP8

Don played a steel string flattop, Chet was playing a nylon string classical electric.
If you listen for the overtones, differentiation is rather easy here. That, and Don was strumming open chords while Chet was dancing on the moving Major scale in 6ths.
Perhaps if you thought of it as Don playing rhythm guitar while Chet played Lead...

This is a perfect example of how you can take a beautiful song and make it even more beautiful. Before hearing this, I really didn't think that would be possible. They have proven me wrong.

Don, that's funny, I have been listening to that very piece a lot over the last week (Vincent, by Chet and Don Maclean). There are solo versions by Chet and Don on Youtube, and of course the duet. I hadn't listened to that in about 30 years, then started listening a week ago, and then you mentioned it.
Mac, I was wondering about Chet's guitar on the solo version, doesn't quite sound like a classical (nylon string)- is it- I thought it was a steel string?

peter, i had the same thought on the steel strings but yielded to mac's superior ears. the 'brilliance' of chet's guitar sure sounds like steel to my tired old ears. it definitely looks like a classical machine head on the guitar but the sound has me confused.

.
Chet's guitar is a nylon string solid body. About as thick as a 335, and as loud acoustically. With a nice spruce top for looks and tone and a piezo pickup. First such design, by Gibson. One of their many "Chet Atkins" models. Once Gibson brought it out, lots of makers cloned it.
The sustain on this baby is amazingly long. I had to relearn a whole new touch - to let go of held notes or else it sounds like a piano with a cinder block on the pedal.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
