When tunes are playing, there are short delays, then the tune resumes again. Recently, one tune finishes while there is still one measure to play. The last measure was identified correctly.
I have a good sized computer system, but I think BIAB is encountering resource availability problems. Anything I can do to BIAB to make it less resource intensive ? My system is very clean. Should I disable all other tasks when BIAB is running ?

If it is resources, reboot and see if the result changes.
Please give us a better idea of your computer specs. The free utility Geekbench gives a score. However, if your computer is powerful, there can be other things at work. Try the free utility DPC Latency Checker. The website has instructions. See if there is something else running that interferes with digital audio. Note: it reads 1000 high in Windows 8 & 10 but it still works.
There are also fast generation disable settings in BIAB, but let's see how your computer does on the above ideas.
Are you running BIAB from an external USB drive?
More info will help.

I ran the latency check and it said there should be no problem.
All my BIAB tunes are on a external disk. BIAB application files are on my "C" hard drive.

I copied a BIAB file from my external drive to drive "C". I still encountered a problem with tunes stopping before the reached the end of a tune or pausing during the tune.

I downloaded and installed asio4all. I think there is an appreciable improvement in sound quality. Tunes still stop/pause, but not as often.

Generally, Latency is caused by using the wrong driver for a given sound card.
Unless the sound card is specifically designed for ASIO, don't use ASIO...choose MME.
Latency shows up when you have midi stuff playing through a soft synth and also audio in teh tracks as well. I can get my MME drivers to play well with BB but the latency issue shows up when I go to a DAW and have audio and midi with synths in the same project.
Processing the synths into real time and mixing that with audio is where the latency becomes apparent.
If the sound card is external and supports ASIO, then by all means use ASIO since it makes all that stuff above work together and produces great results.
Sometimes ASIO4ALL will work and sometimes (as in my case) it doesn't. A4A is simply a wrapper that tries to fool a non-ASIO sound card into thinking it is an ASIO sound card.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

I believe it is coincidence if your sound quality changed by selecting a different driver. Latency, maybe; quality, no. But whatever works...
In your original post, you asked about shutting down other tasks. If DPC Latency Checker shows no problems with underlying services, I have to ask, what are these tasks to which you refer? If it is other programs running while BIAB is running, then yes, close them. If it is something else, please elaborate.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
