Sundown on the St, Lawrence

You're sitting on the bank of the St. Lawrence river (note input river, stream, pond, lake or ocean of your choice) in the late fall watching the last of the painted leaves slowly fall to the ground. Quickly the wind picks up, a cold front comes in, and a little snow starts to fall. Then just as quickly it stops, the sunshines and you are at peace with nature again.

This is one that JonD and I have been working on for a couple of weeks now.

The BiaB style is Orchestrial 4/4 with harp. The drums were deleted and I wrote the current drum part.

The bass track was doubled and one raised an octave so the double bass and cellos are playing in unison just an octave apart.

The harp track was deleted and replaced with a harp sound played via my MIDI controller.

The string parts were modified to fit the song.

JonD played the piano and synth vocal parts via his keyboard controllers. He also wrote the main theme.

I played the flute via my wind controller, added string parts and solo violin via my keyboard controller, and played my guitar.

The harp track was deleted and replaced with a harp sound played via my MIDI controller.

Let us know what you think.

Mario & Jon,

Nice! Very cinematic.

It is obvious that you spent time on this. Nice playing from the both of you...

Relaxing. Enjoyable.

Wonderful music Mario (and Jon D.)!!! As Floyd said, it really feels like score music. I'm a huge film fan and I could imagine this with a dramatic scene. Beautifully done!! Take care. Greg

Hi Mario,

Wow... a great deal of effort has gone into creating this fine piece of music. You and Jon have done really, really well. In my mind, this could easily have been part of the "Dances With Wolves" soundtrack.

One of your best!

Regards,
Noel

You are at peace with nature!!

It's a great work. You're a true skilled composer of

You and Jon are the midi sound giants. This is midi as it is supposed to sound.

Sadly, the version of BIAB I have has grudgingly stuck to its guns that I purchased BIAB for Realtracks and nothing but Realtracks and heartily resists any and all attempts by me to get anything midi beyond a few Coyote yelps... I keep trying new devices and software, pleading for this time to get my computer to play nice with midi.... Thousands of midi songs stored on discs, ready to deliver the goods programmed into them.

Just yesterday I found I have Kontakt Essentials 7 suite on my Desktop since 2013 that was included with Studio One... Installed and cannot get it activated with the activation code because it also requires serial numbers with the individual products, which I don't have.

Alesis Q49 Controller, TTS-1, Roland SC-55 MarkII and Inegra 7 all back in their box and setting on the shame shelf in the closet unable to conquer the BIAB/Studio One/Windows 7 Midi Monster...

I've not given up hope, just taking a much needed breath along the banks of the St Lawrence dreaming of what might one day be my own reality of Midi sounds.

Your post is inspirational both musically and mystically to me.

Very Nice, Mario. Enjoyed my listen.

Man, just the thought made me shudder. We have a cold front going through right now. I actually had to put on a shirt! grin

Hi Mario.

Lots of nice musical textures in this piece.

We have a river about 50 yards from the back of our house and with an east wind blowing gently at the moment the leaves are turning and falling and being carried away by the current.

A lovely piece which sounds like it should be in a film.

Thanx all for listening:

Floyd, Greg, Noel, Rog - We tried to have it cinematic and it appears as though we succeeded. I'm glad that you liked it.

Sonny - Where is your CD listed?

Rob - Things have been a bit hectic around here with 4 music projects, getting everything ready for winter and a bum back. Now I have some listening time.

Sergio - I'm not sure about that true skilled composer reference. But I sure try to be at least OK.

Charlie - I can help you set up you MIDI and Sonar if you like. Just PM me. Just remember you will get OK but not great sounds from any GM sound source.

Bob - You are breaking my heart! This morning it we 39°F when I got up.

Guenter - That guitar was a one pass play whatever came to me track. I thought it was pretty good also.

Mario,

Have you been taking or drinking something lately? If so, you think I could have a little taste? It's a phenomenal production.

Mario and JON,

The picture you paint of the river sounds idyllic, sadly my local one is lifeless and coloured by rust from old coal mine workings. So I imagined myself on top of the mountains watching kites circle above me.
Beautiful soundscape as usual.
You and Jon show that MIDI is still a force to be reckoned with, in the right hands.

Intersting that Noel mentioned Dances With Wolves as that is our favorite movie.

At the moment we are sitting in our little music room looking out a window into
the woods as this plays...and the leaves here are just beginning to turn.

Mesmerizingly beautiful. It must be gratifying to know how well all of that
effort worked out.

We love it!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
