AH THE MINI MOOG

Following on from Marios recent exelent post here is another much smaller but still fun one for you

I use this Free mini moog plug-in my windows based Daws like Sonar
And have also got the stand alone version that comes with its own host, just Google Mini moog VA and download the stand alone version with host if you don’t have a Daw , you can even play this with your mouse with the onscreen keyboard. or your yamaha via midi usb lead.
Whole lot of good presets in there load them up and watch the Moog controls move to give you an idea,
Try program 8 Wakeman’s Journey, prog 57 singing theremin (very beach boys), prog 116 sweeping gate.

Lots of free downloads of this .
Here is one for the VST plug-in, don’t worry that it says fl studio it will work with any windows based daw that supports VST plugins

http://free4vstplugins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/minimogueva.html

Great plug in for vintage synthy sounds like Emerson etc
have fun
Mike

Thanx mike. I just DLed it and I will try it a little later today.

With all of those knobs along with MIDI learn and save functions one should be able to customize and/or create a lot of patches. I'm looking forward to mess with this!

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

HI Mario

Pleased you are giving it a go .
I haven’t got past playing with the presets yet but there is a lot of potential there.
Nice to see polyphonic mode on a Moog so you can now play chords without 3 separate moogs, lol.
And when played by your midi keyboard can be tasty, (see devices midi )

Have fun
Best regards
Mike

Hi Mike,

I just finished playing with this and if anyone else is following this thread this is a no brainer. Although the presets are very nice you can tweak them in many ways.

Thanx for sharing Mike!

Interesting; we have an old moog (hardware version and still working), seeing the settings used for various sounds may be pretty cool.
.. hope I get time to check this out.
Would it be worth getting it just to see the presets? I mean; do the presets actually help identify known reference sounds (Wakeman sounds like the referenced Wakeman sound, etc)
It would be interesting/fun to test the preset settings if so. May get some life out of the old gal yet.

Hi all

Pleased some of you are finding this of interest .and as Mario says its not difficult to find your way around and get some good sounds.

All the Knobs in the display are animated and when you load a preset they go round to their position for that preset
So I guess you could copy those settings physically to one of those preset cards that you could get for the hardware version way back then, or just set the hardware to the on screen settings by eye and ear
Assuming similar tuning and oscillators exist on your model.

It’s all good fun and some of those old sounds are to die for, if you are into that sort of thing.

Mike

Yeah, that's what I was thinking; how close are they really?

If they got you in the ball park it would be pretty cool. I'm hoping to be near it tomorrow, but not sure if it'll get pulled out for the jam session ..

This is one of the VSTi I posted on these forums over 10 years ago to have PG products use ASIO to experience the play through joy of this specific plugin in near real time. Grab the excellent Arp 2600 simulation as well. These still work great after all these years and not a single pot replaced.

FYI also f you at willing to put a laptop in you rig, you can use ANY VSTi as a standalone with Hermann seib's Savihost and good ASIO drivers.

Hi all

I thought I bring this old post of mine up from 2016, for the benefit of newer members like Will who I know will love this. So much control. This version is polyphonic switch on LH side so you no longer need three moogs to play a chord, what would we have given for that way back then?
Just a note to load the preset program patches click on the little document icon next to the arrows in the top tool bar , you can choose you midi input if you have a midi keyboard from the Devices Menu.
If you don’t want to use it as a plugin in BIAB you can download a stand alone version that uses Savi host and run it straight from the desk top just Google for download.

Have fun
Mike

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
