Does anyone find this makes a difference?
Most all BIAB tracks (unlike the old days) seem to render pretty well with chord transitions rendering perfectly - but there are still some really rough ones like "RealTracks Demo Set 143 DixieLand Fast." It is glitchy.
I did try the "Disable Fast Generation" but it does not seem to make a difference on this one.
I believe the "Disable Fast Generation" feature makes complete sense in concept - are there some sets or Styles, or quick beat/chord change patterns where it really makes an improvement?
What is the recommended use?

Kevin,

If I am understanding your post correctly, the option to disable 'fast generation' causes BIAB to generate the entire backing before playback starts. When the option is enabled, the backing starts playing before the generating process is completed. New machines can handle generating and playing at the same time while older machines often stumble, hence the option. Whether the option is on or off, won't make a difference to the creation of the backing.

If you come across a Realtrack that seems to generate incorrectly, freeze it and send the SGU/MGU file to Support PG Music with an email that explains the problem and which bar of the attached songfile they can hear it in.

Hope this helps,
Noel

Thanks, Noel. My supposition is that Disable Fast Render is akin to doing a online render of a session in ProTools or Logic - - - that it is just a quickie pass through the file for convenience sake. Whereas if "fast" is disabled then the render is done with more precision even if it takes longer.
What you are describing is not intuitively gathered from it's name, but if you are right then that is a fantastic feature as I have spent 15 years waiting for BIAB files to render quicker after I make a change in the chord structure or hit the "Stop" button.

Kevin,

I don't know if this will help...

What I always do when I'm in the "adjusting/finding chords" stage of arranging a song is to use midi-only styles. These generate in a second or two. Then, when I have the chords settled, I move into Realtracks. I find that doing things this way saves me a good deal of time.

Regards,
Noel

That's what I do also; I generally start with the basic ZZ styles just to get the chords and arrangement right. Once I have the structure and basic feel down, I then move on to the instrumentation and arrangement. As mentioned, this generates super-quick and makes it easy to change things out.

I never use fast generation! In my experience the result simply isn't as solid, neither audibly nor musically.
If you're on a computer where the rendering time is so noticeable it's "slowing the flow" of creativity, the already mentioned midi-only idea seems like just the thing cool

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
