Some strong views are being expressed. Thanks dga for starting this discussion!

dga, I understand yout desire for more instrumentation however BiaB already has the capability; you just can't play more than eight tracks at a time. You can use F5 to change the instrument on any track (except drums) to something different. Also, by using the multi style feature to add additional part markers you can switch styles (and use the instruments within a style) at any bar.

BiaB has plenty of power to do many of the things people like to do; it's just knowing the features exist.

One additional thought, BiaB uses midi for things like harmony so there is a lot more midi than what you see for the instruments.

Jim Yes I originally wanted to suggest a PRO version of BIAB with enhanced features. If someone is satisfied with BIAB as it is that's fine. Now the only difference in the products are the number of styles/samples you get and whether they are compressed or the full AUDIOFILES themselves. Didn't want to force people to something more complex or higher priced. The Drum tracks, well that's my wish, so I didn't have to investigate MIDI drums.

This is getting way off my topic so I will also ask here and also start a new thread (How to implement Midi Drums i RB)

But, alas, I'm investigating the MIDI route for individual drum tracks. In RB there is a Drum Kit. Just can't seem to understand how to implement it to play sounds. I generated a MIDI drum track on one of my songs. But it plays only 2 sounds, neither of them sounds I would use, not a Kick or Snare sound. I tried to see how to use the drum kit but I can't even hear sound when I click the various drums. They change colors but now sound.

paying more money for the app it's self might be the only way to get a better app ? ?
Like power tracks is $49 http://www.pgmusic.com/powertracks.packages.htm
and real band is $99 http://www.pgmusic.com/realband.htm
and band in a box with real band is $129 http://www.pgmusic.com/bbwin.packages.htm

As for midi drums you need the vst time info working (that they are fixing now) to be able to use a good vsti drum creator to make a drum track just how you want.

There are some good free ones http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=310355

Baloney! laugh There are already too many options when you review the options page. And I do not believe you will get a better program by convincing 1% of the users to pay more! (And you won't get much more than that who will actually pay more anyway!) Many of us regular upgraders actually pay quite a bit year after year! Raise the price and I will skip the upgrade at least every other year! Other than the RealTracks I have not been that impressed by the improvements since I have been a customer (2012) and would not have paid a dime more for them. In fact, if they announced that the next upgrade did not include RealTracks, I'd sit that one out too!

If it's not money what is stopping them I wonder what it is, maybe all the other users around the world that don't come to the forum are happy with how it is and just keep buying it and pg keep doing what they are doing year after year, maybe it's just a few of us here that [*****] and complain and does not affect too much what pg does - I just don't know I'm at a loss.
Sure I would love to pay the same like you but will it get me a 64bit or vst version ? maybe if I close my eyes and wish for it in the wishlist ? ?
What's the best thing to do ?

I don't think there are nearly enough active users around here who could make a difference financially even if you convinced them to do so! Let's say there are maybe 50 active users and you could convince half of them to pony up $1,000 that would only be $25,000...not nearly enough to pay for a programming team to do the overhaul needed! But perhaps they have already invested in this and have a crack team secretly coding the killer 64-bit BIAB right now! laugh

- Keep asking for improvements.
- Wait for a competitor to arrive.
- Keep figuring out work-arounds. And I am still DELIGHTED with the one you gave me here, http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=341704#Post341856
- Use it for what it does best (generating tracks) and ignore the rest while doing your real work in your DAW!

I just wanted to put individual drum tracks on the wishlist, this could happen unless PG increased the number of tracks BIAB could handle.

That is a BIAB WISH not a need. Maybe its a Pipe dream. If it takes a year fine, if it takes 5 years cool. I know I'll still be using BIAB.

I’m pretty much satisfied with 2016 BIAB as it is. Would like to purchase the audio file version in the future. However, in my case, in making backing tracks for performance, I’ve switched to heavy use of high-end arranger keyboards. Their styles get better with each release and are rather amazing. I bounce back and forth between those and BIAB, depending on need and purpose. Sort of the best of both worlds.

I tried making some user track drums with one of the 13ch multichannel wav files above and generated it up in real band but no go - but when you open or drag the multichannel wav file in it will split it to separate tracks - it must use a different process than the user tracks - if they could fix that problem it would be an easy way of have multi drums in real band at least.

J. Larry, I understand people who don't need anything more from BIAB or RB than the current release. What if BIAB was still exclusively a MIDI product as it was back in the early days, as was Cakewalk simply a MIDI sequencer, not until the Linn Drum was invented (thank you Roger!)was there a way to Sequence sampled music, and the digital music revolution was born. PG was a pioneer when they married sampling with sequencing to produce a rather slick digital music production program.

I happen to think that PG music has been positioned for years as the leader in ease of use music production, I also feel their product can fool even some of the slickest studio cats. Is it real or is it BIAB? SO to keep on top PG wants to know what do you wish for? I can wish for features PG might want to include in a future versions, that is what I was using this forum for. Its just a wish.

some use it as a hobbyist - some to learn music - some for live backing - some for practice - some use it professionally in a studio to add 1 or more tracks to a project.

The more versatility these great apps have the better.

SO Pipeline, do you think there should be a more powerful version of BIAB? Its easy to offer less product, just fewer RD and RT as it is now. I started the thread to wish for an expanded version of BIAB that had up to 8 tracks. Allowing for split tracks for the Kick, Snare, HiHat, and X-Y overhead stereo image of the KIT.

"I’m pretty much satisfied with 2016 BIAB as it is."

everyone has a different use for it, so any wish/improvement is good, some people may never use that feature and others will.
I have watch the forum in the past and lots of suggestion got a real hard time, but, then pg implemented them !

So as said above, unless they hire more programmers there is not enough hours in the day - this is all up to pg how they run their business and what they decide to do.
But hey never stop dreaming that's the birth of great ideas that become reality.

"SO Pipeline, do you think there should be a more powerful version of BIAB?"
There is a pro version request here http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=327412

""They could keep the existing band in a box how it is 32 for the older users that have been accustomed to it's interface for the last 20 years and make a new modern version that can be used like band in a box in an audio workstation like real band in a new c++ 64 application (along with multi drums).""

If they don't get around to it but then when they fix the vst time info you can then sync band in a box to a daw like reaper with as many drum tracks as you like or use a vst like Temper that will take a lot of drum tracks and they will all play in sync to band in a box.

Like a 3/4 count-in for a song that's first bar is in 3/4. Now that would be useful.

Pipeline I think these comments could start (have already started) several other threads. I don't see the relevance of your links here? If you wish PG Music would use a different programming language then wish for that. If you wish for the VST time sync to be fixed then wish for that. If you have already beaten those dead horses, ask PG why they did not consider these High Priority items.

I asked the simple question "SO Pipeline, do you think there should be a more powerful version of BIAB?" not JLarry
Your post does not seem to relate to my original topic, offering an 8 track (More Powerful) version of BIAB called BIAB Pro for users who wish the drum parts were on separate channels.

I have been asking for PGMusic to open all 16 channels (BiaB does have 16 channels) so the user can do with them what they want for a number of years now. That is one can use 16 channels for all MIDI, all RTs or both.

All I can speculate is that after years of modifying and adding to the original 32 bit code that to code new stuff without a major rewrite must be a monumental task.

I want my last spoken words to be "I hid a million dollars under the........................"

64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware

The 16 tracks is likely a holdover from MIDI origins. But every time this topic is brought up, I explain that the tracks you have available is not some arbitrary choice. Several tracks are used by harmony, and additional tracks can be used for separating guitar strings. Mario states the optimal solution: uncouple things and let the user decide. And then there's that other bank of 16 ...

How do you use these 16 tracks now, you mention they can be used for separating guitar strings, how? Can you split a piano keyboard?
Matt? What do you mean when you say "then there's that other bank of 16..."

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
