Hi Trygve,

Yet another fine creation to add to your collection! It's a great chord progression and I really liked the melody and the instrumentation. Your mixing continues to get better and better, too.

In case this is useful information...

...one thing I noticed as I listened was that sometimes the realism of the instruments was lost because it sounded like the playing was humanly impossible. Then I looked at your track tempos and song tempo. That's when I saw that your Realtrack tempos were designed for 90 - 110 bpm and your song speed was 135 bpm. My personal experience is that if I use Realtracks designed for slower tempos and get them playing at speeds significantly above their recorded tempo, I reduce the effectiveness of my backings because increased tempo impacts on the quality of realism and stretches the boundaries of believability. (That's just how I hear it, though.)

Overall, I really enjoy listening to your music and hearing how you continue to get more and more sophisticated with your use of BIAB. You're becoming quite a music master!

All the best,
Noel

Trygve,

You've got a lot of nice things going on there. But.. I had the same thought as Noel - the guitar solo sounded as though it was stretched too far from it's intended tempo. The moog was a bit loud compared to the backing tracks - might bring it down some (3 dB maybe to sit in the mix better). Everything else is mixed nicely...

Excellent smooth jazz number Leo!! You put music together really well. I always think Steely Dan when I hear those horns. I don't have BIAB 2016 yet-I think those are new? Can't wait to play with them. Cool stuff!! Take care. Greg

Hi Leo,

I thought I had commented on this about 2 minutes after you posted it, but I must have failed to save it... so here goes again.

Those horns really are awesome! I think they add a lot to just about any song that contains them!

Regarding the various observations about recommended BPM for various real tracks, those are things that people learn thru experimentation, and you are apparently giving the program a pretty good workout lately, so you are probably learning in leaps and bounds!

The fun you're having with BIAB shines through in your compositions! Keep 'em coming!

Hello, Leo

Nice tune and nice arrangement.
I also agree with Noel on the tempo and agree with Floyd on mini moog volume.
And I felt the difficulty of using Ev style and Sw style at the same time.
I also have sometimes experienced the same problem.
Enjoyable listen.

Best Regards.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
