Has It Started?

Is that thunder
Or has it started
Can we reconcile
Or have we parted
I rang my therapist
She’s on vacation
How am I supposed to find
Illumination
Shine a light
On how my life’s unspooling
Heaven only knows
What the Hell I’m doing
Say it’s a holy war
But innocents are dying
Doesn’t rain here anymore
What’s the use of trying
I always turned to you
For consolation
Now you say you’re bored by
My adoration

Don’t be so quick to
Turn my love aside
The snow doesn’t care
Who’s on the mountain side
You might need a friend
Or a place to hide
The snow doesn’t care
Who’s on the mountain side

Is that thunder
Or has it started
Hard to believe this is
What we wanted
The skies are strange with
Signs and portents
Wish I had the key to
Their importance
You rely on
All that medication
Nothing gets you high
Not even fornication
Get up to face the day
What a struggle
One day you may decide
It’s just not worth the trouble
I heard you blamed her
For your undoing
I think it’s only
Yourself that you’re fooling

Don’t be so quick to
Turn her love aside
The snow doesn’t care
Who’s on the mountain side
You might need a friend
Or a place to hide
The snow doesn’t care
Who’s on the mountain side

I was twenty one
Acting melancholy
Drinking way too much
And saying life was folly
When the darkness comes
And it isn’t of your choosing
It’s a different game
Everybody’s loosing
I heard the Devil
On the radio last night
The razor wire is up
The beacons are alight
I’ve stopped counting all the ways
That we have failed
Hear noises on the line
And I think I’m being tailed
You have forgotten more
Than I will ever know
One for the road
Before we have to go

Don’t be so quick to
Turn love aside
The snow doesn’t care
Who’s on the mountain side
You might need a friend
Or a place to hide
The snow doesn’t care
Who’s on the mountain side

Listened to this as it thunders all around us here in S. Carolina this afternoon. Talk about setting the mood...

I like this song a lot. It's a good fit for the vocals and arrangement you created.

Enjoyed it and will be back for more listens.

Hi Peter,
I thought it had a nice live feel to it, and I liked the way the guitar parts worked with the trax. The lyrics seemed a bit cryptic to me, but that makes them more interesting.

Great sound on this, Peter. Nice instrumentation, good mix. Your guitar additions are well done.

Leon's rhymes are a standout here...clever. Good vocals, too (though they get a little low late in the song compared to the band)

Enjoyed it.

Love the lyrics, almost Dylanesque. Interesting song, like the chord progressions, drums, rhyming medication and fornication, what's not to like.

Hey, great delivery Peter.

A really smooth rock feel, excellent lyrics.

This is really up there. I thoroughly enjoyed it, that's for sure.

Melody, lyric and arrangement all work really well.
The effects on your voice were almost overwhelming in the quiet intro - almost had some clipping as well. Once the band kicked in the issue was reduced but I do think you could put your voice, almost naked into the mix and it'd sound fantastic.

Cheers

A really interesting write!! The progression is very nice. There is a lot of repetition but I didn't get tired of it. There are some really great lyrics. Some parts are funny, some poignant, most cryptic. Very different but very interesting listen! Take care. Greg

We listened to this last night and today I came back for another and some comments...and, yep, thunder is all around the homestead.

Like floyd said "nice rhymes" and the mix sounds really good on our monitors. An interesting and effective choice of RT's go well with your playing. It's all happening here...cool vocal, write and arrangement.

Enjoyed it!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
