Song is "In the Midnight Hour"
Intro has a couple of chord changes that fall on the and of beat 4.
I try pushing the 1 by an 1/8 but its not quite right.

Any other approaches?

Thanks,

An EXPANDED style will do that for you.

I invented EXPANDED styles so that you can get up to 8 chords per bar of music, one on any "and" and one on the following beat too if you want.

Go to http://www.nortonmusic.com/styledemo.html and look for the EXPANDED styles for some demos.

Thank you for the reply.
This does provide the answer

I'm familiar with your song disks and actually have made a couple of purchases from your company .
I've been very happy with your song files. They have jump started a lot of my work.

I try to work with biab real styles rather than midi or mixed.

I do wish biab had 8 or even 16 intervals per 4 beat measure.
I'm guessing that would be non-trivial for development.

No doubt the minute I got that I'd be asking for 32 per measure.

Are there other who would like more than 4 chords per bar?
Is this something to go on a wish list?

This has been on the list for years. I am afraid it is just not feasible with the RT's.

You got that right!

For me, about 23 years, right after I discovered the comma.

Thanks for the kind words.

The RTs are indeed tempting. But there are thousands of things you can do with MIDI that you simply cannot do with audio loops.

Having up to 8 chords per measure is just one of the things MIDI can do that loops cannot.

Although I try to mix where I can, my work predominantly involves MIDI. I feel stymied by the lack of editing that the RTs and other loops allow.

I am a firm believer that expression trumps tone, and with a good sound module, the tone is about 95% there and ability to edit is about a thousand times greater.

Of course, there is more than one right way to do almost everything, and my way may or may not be best for the next person.

Notes,

I'm guessing midi is something I may be led to over time.

I'm just getting to the point with enough repertoire to start playing out a little in the next few months.

No doubt I'll start dealing with all the vagaries of playing with backing tracks world.

Then, I'll have to spend tons of $$$ and go midi.

I really just want to plug my guitar into a tube amp, give it a little reverb and play.

the Db to Bb change on the intro falls on the and of 4 in bar 1.
also the Ab to Gb falls there in bar 3

Just so it's clear for anyone reading who might not know this: BIAB as-is can play a chord on the and-of-four, no problem. What it cannot do is then play any other chord on the downbeat of one, following. The second post in this thread, by Notes, explains one workaround.

There's more than one way to do this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNN62ki_aBg

This is just the first one I found, I'm sure there are many more tracks for that tune. You can search for vocal backing tracks, guitar, keys, drums whatever. What that means is those are minus one's with those instruments being left out so you can play along. You have to d/l these as audio but RB allows you to pitch shift a third or so pretty well. That's enough to satisfy you if you need to change keys.

The 'Tube has thousands of free backing tracks if that's what you want. You can also buy a library of a hundred of the exact ones you want for maybe $500 from commercial studios who specialize in this.

For most of us here, Biab is a hobby as well as a gig tool. I like to roll my own but if you just want some good tracks here ya go.

jazz, or mr mammal,

thanks, I've found a few doing exactly what you suggest. I've also purchased a few but I'm not always happy with the arrangements. biab is great because it allows me to build a song as I like.

I use a mix of karaoke, professional backing tracks, and my own biab arrangements converted to wav files to build a repertoire of backing tracks for performanc. Some of the biab ones I've made I feel are pretty good, mostly real tracks with minimal backing (bass & drums, sometimes a keyboard). Keeping it simple.

One thing I do notice is that output levels vary greatly on the tracks, even within biab. I don't currently use a DAW but perhaps that would provide control on the output level. Fortunately I have a workaround that seems good enough.

I have an ipad app (SoundCue) I plan to use for performance. I can set output volume one each track so that helps to homogenize level of the set list. The stereo out of the Ipad feeds into a Whirlwind pcDI box then to the mixer/pa. I haven't settled on the PA side. I like the sound, portability, and configurability of the Bose L-1.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
