For over a year now, I've been posting requests for improvements to the iPad version of BIAB in the Other Programs Wishlist section. Despite generating 2315 views, the response so far has not been sufficient to encourage PG's Development team to act. With those improvements, I think the iPad version would be more popular (chicken and egg problem here?). I use the iPad version exclusively for performances for two main reasons: It fits neatly on my music stand next to my sheet music so that 1. the audience can't see it, and 2. I can (without turning my head). While having BIAB on a laptop next to me would give me more features and flexibility, it would be obvious to the audience that I'm hooked up to a computer, and I'd have to keep turning sideways to view it. So how about it folks? If we can generate enough interest, I'm sure PG Development will respond with their usual great effort and we'll have a superior performance version of BIAB on our hands.
yeah, but its real! It lives here with me and the wife, and it's some kind of weird rat/bat/cat critter combination I've grown attached to.
/Don't let my wife know I've grown attached, it'll ruin my grumpy old man persona //I got lots of pictures but you don't really appreciate him until you experience it .. he is so weird. Family named him Harry; I call him Weird Harold. ///supposedly a Chinese Crested Hairless by registration, but there seems to be a lot of Mexican Xolo in there to me, though he is pretty small ..
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
Alistair, just curious do you ever use Biab live to change the arrangement of a song using the Conductor? Or do you just hit play and let the song run the way you set it up in the chord grid? If it's the latter, why use Biab live at all? You can render your tunes to wav or mp3 and the iPad has great apps for running your show like OnSong or iGigBook and others. There's a bluetooth page turner foot pedal too if you have any two page charts or lyrics.
Thanks, Jazzmammal. On gigs, I just hit play. I prefer using BIAB iPad, rather than playing wav or mp3 files, because when I'm improvising over the second chorus, I can follow the chord changes on the iPad screen. The highlighter keeps me from getting lost. Your suggestion to use wav or mp3 files is a good one however, and I may resort to it if PG doesn't update their iPad version.
I can see that being helpful. It took me some time to be able to read charts, big band ones especially, without looking down at my hands. Ever seen any big band piano charts? Yeoowzer! As soon as I looked down I could easily lose my place during solo's. But, if you lose your place on fairly easy one pagers, you need more practice...<grin>

you need more practice Tell me something I don't know!:) I can follow a lead sheet OK.I guess I just like to keep it simple and avoid train wrecks. Actually iPad BIAB gives me some degree of control. For instance I can start the song playing at any bar by double tapping on it. If the improvements I've recommended are made, I'll have even more.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
