How do I remove the gray area separating measures in the middle of a tune. It is creating a drum fill that I need to eliminate. Thanks for your help Rich

It isn't the grey area creating the fills; it's the part marker (blue or green) at the next measure played. You have the option of starting a new line with the part marker, and in your case, that option is on. Assuming BIAB 2016, do a right-click in the chordsheet, select Display Options, and uncheck New Line for Every Section.

Left-click on the part marker. It cycles through blue, green, and none. If there is none, the gray 'filler' disappears anyway.

I got it now. Thanks for your help. One other question if I may. The last bar is a hold but the bass rings longer than the other instruments and I have tried a number of things and cannot fix it.

Good.
About the new question:
Do you want the bass shorter, or the other instruments held longer? Are you using a Tag? Are you using a 2 or 4-bar ending or making your own? And, what version of BIAB are you using?
If the bass is too long, you can stop all sounds by putting a chord followed by a single period (ex. C. ). This means Rest All Instruments Except none. If the other instruments are stopping too short, is your last chord a Hold? That would be three periods ex. Dm7...
Otherwise, we need to know the answers to my questions above to proceed.
Look up in Help under Rests, Shots, Holds for more info about those.

Bass is a longer duration. My own ending BIAB2013

Yep click it and it cycles through and there's one of those clicks where it's gone.
Part markers not only change the groove between verse and chorus but can also be used to insert a drum fill. So yes, if there's an unwanted drum fill.... simply remove the part marker. I have used part markers the same color as the verse or chorus to add drum fills in the middle of a verse or chorus.
The grey areas are "non-measures" that don't exist in the song as music. it's just part of the grid and as such, they have to show up on the screen. If you notice, the black "current measure" indicator that moves through the song doesn't go to them.... it skips them.
I was thrown off about the grey areas when I first started. However, I simply ignore what the screen looks like and concentrate on what the song sounds like.
I normally get those greys when I add a measure to a 4 measure line or when I delete one or two measures from a line.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Lets explain why those grey bars were introduced in the first place. It's was as a result of users requesting a way to have the screen show all the sections of a song starting at the first bar on the left as opposed to say a B section or a solo section starting at a bar in the middle of a row. Usually a song's section change also needs a drum fill or a substyle change which is why that is controlled by part markers. It makes a song much easier to read as a chart on stage in the middle of a gig when you can easily see the A, B, C, whatever sections all starting at the first bar on the left. It's quite logical when you think about it.
Check out the Fakebook view to see how that looks. If you don't mind different sections of a tune starting in the middle of a line of chords then follow Matt's instructions and turn that off. No more grey bars.

Bass is a longer duration. My own ending BIAB2013 I have 2016 and I get that too with various instruments in endings - one runs on longer than the others. Sometimes its cool and I keep it, sometimes I trim and fade it out as I want to hear it when it gets to my DAW. Sometimes when using a C... ending I find that one intrument will stop dead (as if its seeing C.) Never figured that one out. Ian

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
