Hello fellow users of BIAB,
As a drummer i succesfully use biab to practice jazz swing music.
Now i 'am also trying to print out a song text sheet with the melody and bas lines of a jazz song.
My problem is that i cannot print the same bas line as the one that is played in the song itself when using the single red note playing knob.
Apparently there is some setting i am missing thats creates this different new bass line.
Moreover i cannot print the basline of the 2nd chorus that is played in 4-th notes instead of the 2nd note line of the first chorus.
Can anybody help me with printing the proper bass lines ?

Regards,

It sounds like you might be hitting the "PLAY" shortcut rather than "REPLAY" one when you repeat the song. By hitting PLAY, the song is completely regenerated whereas REPLAY keeps everything the same. Unfortunately, if you close down BIAB and then restart it later, a new bass line will be automatically regenerated.

It might be worth your while considering using RealBand because once tracks are generated, they stay fixed until you choose to regenerate. This even carries through into saved files. However, since the RealBand SEQ files are audio-based, a RB file is much much larger than a BIAB file.

Alternatively, once you have generated your music and printed the score, save it as a wav file (Audio >> Render midi to stereo wav file). You could then load the wav into Media Player (or Winamp, etc) and play along with it. The score and the track should then match. You could then also use a programs like LAME and Audacity to convert the wav file to an mp3 so that it is smaller.

Regards,
Noel

Good advice. Also, In BIAB, you could write the bass line on either the Melody or the Soloist track, which are the two tracks that are NOT regenerated when you reload the song or press Play. I generally put the melody on the Melody track and the bass line on the Soloist track.

About your "moreover", are you talking about double-time playing, or printing an octave different from what you want, or something else?

Hi Matt and Noel,

Thanks for your quick response!
Both suggestions are worthwile and i will try them out.

My 'moreover' problem is not double time playing or different octave printing.
What i mean is that the bass line is different in different chorusses (or do you call it a couplets or verses ?).
Often the first part is played slow in notes with half measure length while the second part and further is played in quarter measure notes.
(i hope my translation of notes into English is correct).
I like to print both as a separate single A4 paper print.

Regards

I tried Matt's suggestion to put the bass on the solo track but i cannot find my way to do this.
The solo tab gives me the opportunity to choose for bass however there is no bass style ??
Probably i am on the wrong track by trying to make a new solist bass ?

The Print Options provide settings to adjust the Print Range - default is First Chorus ...

Martin, thanks for your remark.
Apparently i was mixed up with the effect of this range selection option because of the unknown effect that the bass part changes everytime you push the play button....
So far i understand that i have to put the bass on the soloist track, but how do you do that?
There is no 'track' in the help index.....

Martin thanks , our posts crossed: It works !! Now i have melody and bass on one sheet and the bass does not change anymore!
The new thing now is that the bass line is written very low on about 6 extra lines for the notes which looks very confusing and takes a lot of space. Can i 'lift ' this bass line without doing any harm to the musical side of the song ? (I'm a drummer and have not a clue about tones , only a bit about rithms

For printout purposes it's likely easiest to transpose the bass line on the Soloist track up an octave. This approach allows simultaneous correct printouts on one sheet with melody and bass, say. For playback purposes just mute the soloist track. Alternatively you might adjust the Transpose settings in the Notation options, which however would affect notation transposings of the melody track as well.

Martin, I transposed the soloist by using the Opt button left above the notes screen and applying 36 for Transpone. Is this like one octave?
This results in a bass line well in the normal limits.
Now the melody plays different from the notes, there are some high notes played low and vice versa.
Can i correct the melody play back to as from the notes shown?

Sorry, i meant to say that the melody is played as normal but some notes are now put at higher position and some at lower positions.
the question is therefore: how do i get the notes back on the original positions?

When the melody part plays as normal, yet the notation is different, you likely went the 'Notation Options/Transpose Settings' route. This approach does not affect the sound, it only affects the notation - for Melody and Soloist simultaneously.

Applying 36 for Transpose would mean to transpose 3 octaves - one octave comprises 12 notes.

If you want to have the Soloist (containing now the Bass line) and the Melody printed on one sheet (feasible via the LeadSheet Window) it would be indispensable to go the 'Transpose Soloist only' route. That approach leaves the Melody alone and gets you to second base.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
