I will never buy another product from TASCAM. I am not the only one on this forum that was burned by their US-800 product where they knowingly sold a product with a memory leak issue on PC platform and did nothing for consumers to correct it with a driver update. They simply dropped that particular model from their lineup while the other models with similar features but different channel counts lived on for at least a year or two later (US-600, US-1200, etc.)
Customer service would not address the issue. The retailers that were left with these fire-sale priced them without telling consumers the issue.
Fortunately, this product did not have the same issue on the Mac platform and I found a willing buyer for mine. I do not trust TASCAM as a result to have any product that if released to market will be taken care of with technical support should that product have known technical issues.

I believe TEAC / TASCAM is now under new ownership, Gibson, USA.
Poor business decisions such as the one described above might be one of the reasons Gibson was able to purchase Teac.

Buying just the computer preloaded would be cool.... I can add my own mic, interface and other stuff..
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

I hope you are right. They have had so many innovative products over the years. The US 122 or 144, can't remember which it was, introduced affordable external interfaces to the market.

If that's the case, then it absolutely represents poor management, poor customer-service and unacceptable delivery of products that are expected to work to customer's expectations.
What a shame. It's easier to say nothing than to fix issues.

I owned a Tascam Porta one and that thing worked exceptionally well for what it was. 4 tracks on a cassette. bounceable tracks... very cool for the time.
But yeah, they need to support the things they make and sell.

Poor business decisions such as the one described above might be one of the reasons Gibson was able to purchase Teac. Yes both Tascam and Cakewalk (Sonar) are now owned by Gibson. Thus far they have been excellent with upgrades, updates and fixing bugs in Sonar. I would expect the same now for Tascam.

TEAC/TASCAM invented home recording. It would be a shame if the brand goes away. Some background info that some might find interesting: http://museumofmagneticsoundrecording.org/ManufacturersTeacTascam.htmlI've recorded on several of these decks, and they were built like tanks. Regards, Bob

I got burned by that US-800 unit also. It's sitting out in my shed doing nothing. I hated that it was sensitive to the port you plugged it into (if you plugged it into a different port than before, the driver wouldn't recognize it - you could get around that by plugging it into each USB port in turn, then re-installing the driver - then it would recognize it, but really?!?). I hated that you had to turn it on only after your computer had booted up (of course, there is not on/off switch, so that meant unplugging it). And as was said in "The King And I", "et-cetera, et-cetera, et-cetera".
It got some good write-ups going in; it was a total disappointment on the flip side.

I've had experience with TEAC/Tascam as far back as 1974 starting with the 3340s 4 Track in our practice/recording room with Angel Oak.
I had use of my brother's 3340s for several years. I've had experience with the DA38, two 4-track porta studios, and 8 track porta studio, a 24 channel mixer, several cassette decks and double cassette decks, cd player/recorder, guitar practice cd player and several digital multi track decks.
My personal experience is that I've never had any kind of failure with any TEAC/Tascam product. I know that many have. But that can be said for any product as evidenced by simply looking at posts on their forums such as Roland, Boss, Behringer, Sony, Presonus and BIAB.
Hopefully, the purchase of TEAC/Tascam by Gibson will have the same effect on their product quality and reliability as did the merger of Midas and Behringer. In my opinion, there is no greater piece of hardware that can add an overall enhancement to a home studio than any of the hardware lines based on the X32 software such as the x-air series and X32 variations.

Herb, Not only is the computer preloaded, the complete computer system (hardware, operating system, drivers, installation, etc.) is configured and optimized for audio use by PC Audio Labs. They would not be able to provide the high degree of optimization announced without integrating the parts outside the computer.

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
