Sorry if this is obvious, but I have been searching the forum without success.

I've just upgraded to 2017 and have had BIAB since 2007.
I use it to play backing tracks to practice against.
The music/sound is running about 2 seconds behind the chord map. Does anyone know what is going on.

Thanks

It sounds like the exact amount of time for the default MME buffer size (for onboard sound cards).
Did your Drivers change?

Many sound cards default to 2000 ms of buffer which is 2 seconds. Not sure why the chords window wouldn't buffer also and line up. Sounds strange, but thought that coincidence in time lapse may be a clue..

The chord window is 2 seconds ahead of the music playback.
I'll see if I can play around with soundcard settings/drivers. I definitely didn't deliberately/knowingly change anything like that.

Thanks

I get that the chords window is behind .. meaning maybe they aren't honoring the (default) 2 second audio buffer. That's what made me think of it.

Is there a way of setting them to the 2 second buffer. The count in metronome appears to work just fine

In Audio settings I set "Offset in Ms" to 2000 in addition to the Audio Latency at 2000.
For the moment is seems OK.

PGMusic products have a few quirks. One, I believe, is the metronome uses the default Windows MIDI synth regardless of the driver selected in the application. At least that's how I remember it. So sometimes you do have to tweak things a bit. Sounds like you've found joy.
Congrats.

I could see this as a feature. For someone sight-reading and practicing along with BIAB, a slight delay would help the brain read and recognize the chords a bit before hearing/playing.

You got it backwards (I think, if my previous post is in fact correct).

Apparently the chords were actually running behind the sound. I get the 'read ahead' concept, but 'read behind' would be much more challenging.

/I swear I clicked Reply on Matt's post, but the head makes it look like I replied to Sabino .. this isn't the first time this has happened ..

Bob, I took it as the first post described it.

And I think Quick Reply puts the recent sender there, whereas Reply shows the OP.

Regarding Quick Reply; I'm pretty sure I clicked Reply to your post intentionally, since I was sidetracking a bit. just sayin'
We'll see if it works this time. <grin> Pilot error is possible.

FWIW, his OP does say the chords are 2 seconds behind the music. First time I read it I missed that, but second time it turned on a light bulb, though dim.

Isn't that supposed to happen in the brain? What I mean, and I don't consider myself a sight reader, but years ago I took piano lessons and my teacher would emphasize the need to "read ahead" while playing. Scan the music, figure it out and play it accurately in the proper time.

I have also assisted some players who do sight read (only) and they would say "OK" when they needed the page turned....and they always asked for the turn several measures ahead of where the music was actually being played.

Sure. BIAB 'turns the page' early by default, too. It's perfect: you still see the music at the bottom where a screen page runs out, but also two measures past that up top.

After all these years, I still try hard not to have to sight read. The Internet reduces the excuses for why I can't get a look in advance.

Bob - he must have edited his post by the time I saw it.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
