I have been trying to write some more realistic jazz double bass lines in Stylemaker but I can not make sense of the masks.
I have a base 8 beat riff C G /C G /
No mask, weight of 5
I write an 8 beat riff .... C G/C D Eb E/
with a mask of up 4th , weight 9 (always)
song is cycle of C/ /F / /Bb / /Eb / /Ab/ /Db/ /Gb/ /B/ /E/ /A etc
Works fine till Ab .... then reverts to basic riff Ab Eb/ Ab Eb/
Then works again from Gb ???????
Unless I am reading the help files wrong .... (and there ARE undocumented macro notes) ..... what is going on ????
I don't have much hair left to pull out !

Maybe Notes Norton can jump in, but it seems to me that when you go up a 4th chordwise, it should select that walk up riff.
Maybe also create a 4-beat walk-up riff with weight of 9 masked as going up to a 4th.
Another thing that comes to mind is perhaps as it has gone up, internally it changed to dropping a 5th, rather than going up a 4th. Don't know, but just a thought. Perhaps create another riff masked to go down a 5th. But just speculating here from memory.

Try copying & pasting the pattern and setting the mask of the copied pattern to "down a 5th , weight 9 (always)".
The 2 pattern combination should work.

Many Thanks guys ....
I just never regarded that riff as going down a 5th.
If I was thinking "cycle of 5ths" I might have tweeked to it .... but I doubt it.
I am getting older ... so the grey matter is slower these days !
So now I have to program a riff going down a 5th with a Dom7th mask.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
