Hi Folks, I was wondering if anyone had any favorite audio interfaces for use with RB. I want to have separate outs for bass, drums and backing tracks for a simple duo I am putting together.
I was originally going to export BIB files to Logic Pro, assign instruments and run it live from there. I am using an Ensemble on the Mac which provides 8 outputs already. Tech support offered no advice other than "our software works with everything". (Yes I know RB is windows only)
I also run MusicReader software on another laptop to provide leadsheets for us. I understand that BIB does this too - but does RB? and do you have control to be able to re-play a chorus or verse if so desired from within RB?
Sorry for all the questions -
Dean

I still like my Delta 1010lt, which plays very nicely with RB
RB has notation, like other PGMusic products
There is no way to play a chorus again (etc) as far as I know
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I can recommend NOT buying a PreSonus FireBox.
I have issues with crosstalk between playback channel and input channels (even with all output playback devices disabled), and a high frequency whine.
Make sure your chipset for firewire IEEE 1394 is Texas Instruments. Otherwise, you might be setting up yourself for trouble. Check with the soundcard manufacturer for an approved list of chipsets that play well with their particular card(s).

As much as I'm a big booster for Real Band, Biab is better for live work because of the Conductor feature but then Biab only has one midi output port while RB has 16. The Conductor is very cool though. You sound like you're pretty good with computers so you can use a virtual midi cable setup like Midi Yoke or similar to create more output ports within Biab. Then you can route individual instruments using different synths. The only trouble with that is for me at least, I like to keep my stage setup as simple as possible and the more software configurations to deal with means more potential glitches as the worst possible time. Some will render everything down to MP3's and just play along but you lose all the flexibility not only with looping and such but with having access to the individual instrument mix. There's no one easy answer to this, you just have to decide on the least offensive compromise. I know this is not directly answering your question, I'm not familiar with the laptop interfaces you're asking about but I have used Biab live on several occasions so I thought I'd throw in my 2c.

Thanks guys. I am probably going to simply export the midi to LogicPro because its interface is dead quiet. If only BIB would address separate audio output it would be my golden solution. Dean

Dean i am confused, Logic is not an interface, it is software. So how can it be quieter? Noise must be generated by something that has physical features like a preamp, cable, or something that makes noise.
Maybe i am missing your point, could you expand on it a tad?!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
