I have set the song length at 76 bars in RealBand but playing song in sequencer screen the song continues until I manually stop it. What haven't I done. Must be an error in my settings somewhere as my BIAB songs stop at the end bar as they are supposed to. Anybody suggest why please?

Have you done a lot of audio editing on any of the tracks (cut/paste/insert/move/etc)?
Are your tracks audio, midi, or a combination of both?
An anomaly that has popped up at times is that when you do a lot of audio editing, for some reason RealBand will sometimes append the cut portions to the end of the track. Don't know if that's a result of keeping track of edits to allow for undo's or what, but I've seen it happen (and others have reported it in the past as well. So you end up with some audio content waaaayyyy at the end of the track, out of sight from the main part of your song. When this happens, you can usually highlight the track from the end of the song to the end of the track and delete the offending material. You may have to do that on multiple tracks.
Also, if you have MIDI tracks, it's possible that you have a MIDI command embedded on the track that references a location past the end of the song. This will have the effect of making the song longer than what you originally framed it out to be (76 bars). You can use the F2 key on a MIDI track to bring up the MIDI event list for that track.
Don't know if that's what is going on, but just a couple of ideas to check.

Using the transport control to go to the end of the song can reveal over a thousand apparently empty bars and if the song is saved in this state, it won't open again, displaying a message that the file is too large.
I find the easiest way to delete the extra bars is from the BARS window. It's a simple task to highlight lots of bars over all the tracks.
Exactly why this happens is not clear, as John said, but it's only happened to me twice and not for a long time now.
Hi John, Thanks for your input. No.....there is the bare minimum of editing however I did slice up a generated sax solo deleting the unwanted parts which might have some bearing however I did notice that this is happening with ALL other Real Band songs I have done. ??? but not happening in BIAB. Even on chords page it comes to end of highlighted bars and continues on until I manually stop the song.
I did find a temporary workaround by using the Play Region facility, highlighting the whole song and pressing the Play Region button.Song then runs from start to end and stops...but this only works as long as I don't click anywhere else on screen which cancels the Play Region instruction.
The song in my original question does have some midi info but that doesn't explain why it's happening in other RB songs which are purely real sounds.
Tried deleting all track info after the designated end of song to track ends but the timeline still marches on past the stop point.
It's either something silly (me probably!) or some sort of marker data has gone missing in RB?

Thanks also to ROG. I tried what you suggested using the Bars view and there did seem to be loads of extra bar squares after the song end . When I tried to highlight them all it seemed to go on FOREVER. Going back to the sequence page the area after bar 76 was showing in black. I tried deleting this area and for a moment I thought it had worked but again the timeline cursor just continued on well past bar 76 and showed no signs of stopping the song. Back to drawing board I guess.

Make sure when you 'Cut' the extra stuff, the 'Close Gap' check box is enabled, otherwise you cut it but leave the space (Gap).
If that doesn't work try 'Save As' and save the file as another name .. this would help eliminate disk corruption on a given file, as the saved file gets written elsewhere on the disk this way.
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Kev T,
Perhaps you can upload one of the project files (SGU, MGU or SEQ format, not the final rendered WAV file) you're having trouble with to DropBox, Box or some other internet accessible storage and then post a link to the stored file here in this thread. Then we can load the file, take a look at it and share our findings here. Better than guessing. Since there are multiple project files exhibiting the same issue if we can find out what's going on with one then you can most likely perform the same fix to all the project files having this issue.
Hi Jim, Thank you very much for your reply. Sorry for the slight delay in responding. I'm not really familiar with Dropbox (so after a crash course :)) I hope I have managed to upload a .SEQ file to Dropbox Public Files. File ref is : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/w1l483tqm4y2yk1/AACfd0HxN33-RPiacDw484Yza?dl=0
I just whipped up a very basic file as demo for what's happening and apart from deleting an unwanted instrument, (synth) the file is just _CPOPNGS style used with the chords of the song. The only FX is some PG Dynamics on the Drums. No added instruments or other editing. The song should stop at bar 98 (and does actually put the two bar generated end after bar 98 but instead of halting at bar 100 as I would expect, the music stops but the cursor continues on through unused bars (or if I'm looking at the Tracks View the cursor timeline just keeps going after the music stops and will only stop when manually done with STOP button.
I'd be very grateful if you (or any other kind forum member) could take a look and see if you can figure where I have gone wrong and whether the song stops on your setup.

Well, I just loaded up your file and played it from beginning to end. The song appears to be framed to end at bar 98, but with the 2 bar ending (really 4 bar to allow for fade out) it really ends at bar 102.
The song just stopped like it was supposed to at bar 102 and did not go past into later empty bars.
So for me, it worked as expected. I'm running RealBand 2017 Build 7 Release 1.
You might want to try a "factory reset", however, this will require re-selecting your audio devices when you relaunch RealBand. The information about it is found here.

Thanks so much John That fixed the problem! I must have managed to screw up a setting in the RealBand.ini or RB.CFG files.
As soon as I had changed the original files to .old and rebooted (it asked me to re-select my Audio Device - Focusrite 18i20 as you said) new ini and CFG files were created. On rerunning the song again it stopped at bar 102 as it should.
Many thanks for your kind help (and all others who replied) Regards Kev T.

Hi guys, I'm having the same problem as Kev T ....Time line not stopping at the end of the song.
It happens every time I load Build 7....I've reloaded RB2017 four times and it works fine, but as soon as I load Build 7 the problem starts again. This may or may not be the same problem that Kev T has been having but just thought I'd mention it.
For what I do it isn't much of a problem so I live with it. I'll try a factory reset as john suggested when I have a minute.
Hi Rusty. The factory reset seems to have fixed mine (Big Thanks to John!) The ends now stop where they should.
I would have thought that a reinstall should have done the same thing?....but definitely try the factory reset and let the forum know if it fixes your problem too.
Kev.

The immediate problem seems to be solved so I'll just post this for someone who happens on to this thread later.
What I've found that can work well with not only this but lots of other little things is to simply reinstall the latest patch. It will overwrite what was already there and that can clean up a lot of stuff like this. In over 10 years, I've never had to completely reinstall either Biab or RB as programs.
Good to see you back on the forum. It's been a while! The link below should take you to Build 4 (in case you are interested in it). I've just re-downloaded it and it worked for me.
Hey Noel, That worked. What abt Build 5? I,ve been in the RGV of Texas playing. Going back in 2 weeks. already booked all season twice a week. The $$ is incredible. Using RB all the way. I see 5&6 are gone. I upgraded from 5 to 7. Maybe that is the issue.
I remember that last season I used 2017/4 and it was fine. My last gig I used 2017/5 and had a different issue but not serious. I just loaded 7 with the issue so back to 4 until it's addressed.
I'm beginning to worry a little about this, as it's quite a serious issue, and I would have guessed not an extremely difficult one to resolve. However, it's sure taking a long time.

Real Band (2017-build 7) installed on two computers, a desktop and a laptop, both running Windows 10.
The laptop has the same problem reported by others, all songs (SEQ) run on past the endings. I reverted back to build 4 and it's fixed. Before I did this I tried returning to factory settings. This did not work.
The desktop seems to be okay with build 7 except for one song that runs past the end. There may be many others, but I haven't the time to go through a lot of them right now.
I tried the SEQ and it stopped using ASIO and Always On or off. I tried it using MME Output always On and it did not stop. I tried it with MME off and it stopped.
Yes, that fixes it! Thank you for finding that and pointing it out. So . . . what is that setting for? Why do I need to choose always on or off? Still seems like a problem when "MME on" makes the songs roll on and on.
My desktop uses ASIO and my laptop uses MME (short story - different audio interfaces), so this fix explains why my desktop seems OK (except for at least one song).
I don't think it broke something, it's just something that was missed while implementing the MME always on. The main thing is he implemented the VST sync, that was an enormous achievement and well worth it and expands the capabilities of RB no end. This is just a small bug that is easily bypassed. I would say it hasn't been fixed as it is not too important at the moment if they are working on bigger n better things.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
