A song for the gypsy that lives in us all on some level. I read somewhere that if you ask a songwriter what his favorite song that he wrote is, He will almost always say "the last one". So I guess that makes this one my newest favorite.

What a tune! I love the tone in the vocals of this - it's definitely the highlight for me. The arranging is great too, and I really enjoyed the subject matter.

Thanks so much for sharing, Gary!

I enjoyed the relaxed gypsy rhythm and the gentle way you deliver great lines like this:
"I`ve always felt like a missing verse
in a still unfinished song"
Very well done!

Gary, I really like your laid back style. This is a very good tune packed with a lot of truth in the lyric content that many of us can relate to! How true your statement is that as song writers, we always feel our latest one is the best! It shouldn't be any other way! Thanks, Torrey

Gary,

Yeah! I'm sort of a gypsy, I guess - been to 41 countries and all but t US states (Oregon and Hawaii). One of the biggest joys for me is finding out what lies around the next bed of a road I've never been on before.

Cool song in every way! Your vocal has so many dynamics in this one. It;s the longing voice of the gypsy waiting for his next journey.

Totally loved it! This simply great!!!

"I've always felt like a missing verse

Robert's already mentioned the above verse but it alone is worth the price of admission.

Your vocal puts the perfect amount of feeling into the lyric and all is well supported by the backing tracks.

We enjoyed our listens.

Thanks to everyone. I'm replying to all at once because I don't want to come across as trying to up my stats or something. This song, I guess is autobiographical in a sense. My father was a groundhog saw miller, meaning he followed the timber to wherever. Each tract of timber meant a new home, a new school and new surroundings. I probably attended 20 different schools, So I guess I've been a gypsy all my life. Later, much later, My wife and I put down roots for several years in Western Ky. We always dreamed of going back to some of the places where I had worked, only without the twelve hour days/ seven days a week work schedules. When I finally retired in 2011, we bought a motorhome and set out. We are planning, right now to leave the day after Thanksgiving for a six month tour of the western states. I a having a hard time holding out that long. There is no song as loud as the song of the open road. Thank all of you for your comments. Most of you, I am sure, have spent some time on the road, most musicians do, but a lot of you have that same Gypsy longing In your blood. I salute each and every one of you.

Good song! Melody is super, great lyrics, and the backtrack works well.
I assume that is you on the guitar starting around 2:09 or so? Nice, very tasteful and melodic.

Thanks Dave. I really appreciate your comment. As far as the guitar solo. I cut two different versions. One was myself on my Taylor 310 ce, and the other was A real track by Brent Mason. His was using a nylon guitar and I felt like it fit the mood of the song better. His also had a little more of a Spanish styling that I particularly like. Thanks again!

Thank you so much David. I am still new to this type of recording, but I am slowly but surely getting a feel for it. Sometimes I would love to just sit down and pick yours and several others brains on navigating BIAB AND RB. Up until the introduction of the real tracks version of BB, I have always used outside studios, so the engineering part of it was done by others. Luckily I have the work of you and others to learn from, and I thank you all for that.

Gary,

A cool song - just the right feel to the melody for a "road song". And you sing it with conviction. I would have like seeing you post the lyric...

Cool BAND on this. I like the guitars in particular.

Do you continue to write and record while you travel?

Yes, those lyrics jumped out at me too! Sounds like Brent's acoustic nylon RT which I love-fits perfectly here. This is a very soulful, sweet song. Nice job!! Take care. Greg

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
